All TV's are NOT alike. I have noticed that it next to imposible to see a cloaked scout on my projection TV. Yet they are clear as day on my plasma TV. Id imagine CCP only tested cloaks on HDMI/hi def. I truly feel bad for the noobs with older TV's. They just can't get a break.........

B-But, my old tube TV has lasted ~21 years! They can't just bend me over like that without at least giving a reach around. That's blasphemous!

I think this one is from the 90's. Kids don't take care of anything. They had two new ones and broke them both. Flat screen was knocked over and another one got a controller thrown at it. Salvation army tv it is. The sad part is...... The $5 tv has lasted 2 years.. $300 tv 2 months. |

I can't feel that bad tbh.
You can pick up a 32 inch LCD TV for Craigslist for $100-150 bucks.
Even at bestbuy the TVs are pretty cheap. And I'm advocating that everyone should get a new TV just to play dust, but I mean..it's cheap enough that you don't have to break the bank just for a new TV(I waited a long time to upgrade my old giant back TV to a LCD)

You can get a new 24 inch full-HD monitor with a HDMI in on Amazon for $150. That's what I play on. Set up your space so it's maybe 3-4 feet away from your face and you can see absolutely everything. I've never been snuck up on by a cloaked scout from the front like in Judge's video- not once. I can see a cloaked scout from 75m+ away.
http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VS247H-P-23-6-Inch-Full-HD-LED-Lit/dp/B005BZNDS0/
This one comes with various presets- the game mode really boosts the contrast and saturation, color changes like the blue scout shimmer stick out like a sore thumb.

Zero, it's hilarious how your thread on the Cloak render, became a chat about Hi-Fi television that Ralph Cramden never wanted to shell out money for.
But on point, I DO confirm your assessment of the cloak render. I play Dust alternately on two different PS3s, but off the same LCD television monitor. One console is outputting HDMI with full-white in the video options---and the other PS3 is outputting 720p over an S-Video cable.
The monitor is great at decifering the best quality from both, and when you're running around in HDMI you SEE when the cloaker is making mistakes that reveal himself to you. (But only if you remember CCP's DESCRIPTION of how the cloak field behaves when being used... otherwise, you just dismiss what your eye sees as a graphic glitch in your 720p game.)
In HDMI, 've made several kills to cloakers who "exceeded the ability of their cloak field", usually strafing them as they flee until a "kill" credit come up on the HUD. I've had to tweak my S-video image (THROUGH the Dust brightness/detail/image-ratio settings in the menu, NOT my tv or PS3 picture), in order to increase my cloaker-kills on the 720p-output PS3. It's sitll not as easy to "see" the sneaky pest in 720 as it is in HDMI.
If the cloak effect works this way for all players, I think the render is JUST RIGHT. It's just on the edge between being exploitable by an experienced player who wants to "hunt cloak-boys", and being soft enough that less-masterful players will DISMISS what they may be seeing (actually being given the clues, but ignoring them because they're in the middle of getting some other thing done that's just as important and urgent). It's just adding another layer of "situation awareness" to your survival on the maps.
Those of you with 480i monitors or tiny screens: Go into the Dust menu while you're safely at the beginning of the match, and experiment with the "detail", "brightness", and especially "image ratio" (the right name....someone please confirm for us),... until you get the tweak that helps you pick up the cloak-clues better! The sooner we start slaughtering cloaker wholesale, the sooner the cloaking will calm down to a more conservative level of use.

THIS!!! I don't even have kids and I know kids are going to break things. My nephews had Nintendo 3DS. They broke them by throwing one another's DS in anger at walls, floors and even my oldest nephew breaking one of the younger's one DS in half with his hands.

I know a lot of kids have "temper" issues when they get frustrated with something, no matter how they are raised, so not all the blame can be put on the parents, but I never threw my controller, or any other stuff I had, anywhere no matter how angry I was, because I was made clear about one thing right away, whatever stuff I was given, if I broke it directly intentionally, or indirectly intentionally, I would not be getting it back. The only chance of getting something back that I broke was if it was pure, honest accident.
So, that's the code I had to live by and whenever I was angry at anything, I would break my parent's stuff because if I can't have nice things, then they can't either, lol. Clearly at this age I've grown out of such things, kinda.. sorta... well, a bit.

Kids just like to break things. xD It's in their nature to break things. Teaching your kids how to react and deal with situations is part of parenting - letting them break stuff in fits of rage is, in my opinion, wrong. Note: That doesn't mean they shouldn't express how they feel.
