Perhaps it is time we start looking at vehicle-sales, yes?
This article is also available in a pretty version. (Printable version)
In DUST we have 3 sizes (and 3 types) of vehicles, small (Light Attack Vehicles), medium (Dropships) and Large (Heavy Attack Vehicles). To keep things simple, and to avoid overly long posts, in this article we will only look at the Heavy Attack Vehicle, aka the HAVs.
HAV Sales
Prior to Uprising 1.7, released in December 2013, HAVs were largely seen as limited to a dedicated group of people, with the skills to keep these alive, and the ISK to purchase new ones. HAVs were expensive, and relied on multiple active modules. With Uprising 1.7, the price of HAVs came down notably, and with that a significant increase in sales:
01/11/2013 - 5463 pcs 15/11/2013 - 5063 pcs 01/12/2013 - 7049 pcs 15/12/2013 - 32156 pcs 01/01/2014 - 21926 pcs 15/01/2014 - 21680 pcs 01/02/2014 - 29386 pcs 15/02/2014 - 29148 pcs 01/03/2014 - 28274 pcs 15/03/2014 - 31527 pcs 01/04/2014 - 19585 pcs 15/04/2014 - 22686 pcs
From December 1st to December 15th we are seeing a 4.5x increase, and at least until Uprising 1.8, sales had settled on a level of ca 4x that prior to 1.7.
Same, as a nice graph.
When we look at this, we can really see the jump in sales, as of 1.7. Another thing that seems obvious is that Sicas and Somas (the militia-level HAVs) are outselling their standard brethren. To show this in a different way...
Sica and Soma are looking like they account for close to 65% of all HAV sales, with the Gunnlogi and Madrugar coming in around 15% and 20% respectively. To view the same in a more interactive grahp, follow this link.
A curious observation based on these is that in 1.6 Madrugars were outselling Gunnlogis, and same for Somas vs Sicas, while in 1.7, there was a convergence; Armor and Shield HAVs were selling in close to same quantities. With 1.8, and the hardener changes, this has changed back to Madrugars having a slightly higher sales-rate than Gunnlogis, while Somas and Sicas are largely remaining equal. As Militia is outselling Standard, when measuring volume, the price-difference means ISK expenditures look a bit different.
As of around 1.8, ISK spent on Madrugars has been pulling up to the same level as Sica and Soma, with Gunnlogis briefly being on the same level. Looking to Total ISK Expenditure, we can actually see that it largely follows the structure we saw in Sales Volume. It is not just the tankers-of-old that are simply buying more HAVs for the same money, but an influx of players getting into HAVs.
The increase is clearly smaller, around 2x, which is in line with volume and the change in prices:
Militia - 138040 ISK -> 59565 ISK (2.317x) Standard - 200000 ISK -> 97500 ISK (2.051x)
Something else we can look at is the number of market-orders are being put in for HAVs. A single order can be for 1 or more pieces of a single item
18/04/2014 11969 @ 2,49 pcs/order 19/04/2014 12076 @ 2,50 pcs/order 20/04/2014 11895 @ 2,50 pcs/order 21/04/2014 10534 @ 2,43 pcs/order 22/04/2014 9318 @ 2,43 pcs/order 23/04/2014 9113 @ 2,48 pcs/order 24/04/2014 8339 @ 2,50 pcs/order HAVs are amongst the most expensive items in the game, and people are likely not keen to keep a large stock of them for various reasons. That weGÇÖre only seeing an average of around 2.5 pcs/order seems to confirm this; most people are only buying the HAVs they need, or can afford, short-term.
An easy-to-read graph!
One of the effects of Uprising 1.7 seems to be that people can afford buying more HAVs at a timeGǪ

Large Turrets
Immediate expectation is that sales of large turrets follow those of HAVs.
Graph!
While the basic structure is the same, the increase is actually in 5-6x range for turrets, compared to the 4.5x we saw for the frames. Alongside the observation that most frames are militia, it would point to players being perfectly happy using the cheapest-possible frames, with various turrets applied to them.
The above graph is showing a GÇ£slightGÇ¥ preference toward 2 of the turret-types, over that of the 3rd. If we try to zoom in a bit:
Rail turrets make up around 50%, blasters around 43-44% and missiles barely pushing 6%. Just prior to the release of Uprising 1.7, missiles actually managed 17.67%. For anyone wanting to look at this in more detail, use this interactive graph.
Armor Modules
Another aspect of HAVs, and of all vehicles, are the modules. Some of these come in GÇ£heavyGÇ¥ versions, indicating they are perhaps more suitable for HAVs over LAVs and Dropships; there is nothing really keeping heavy modules, or any module, from being used on any vehicle, and in a review of a single vehicle-type we cannot easily determine what to look at in this area. In this article we are going to look at just Armor Modules, and where applicable, only the Heavy versions.
The first thing that was brought up when asking around for what people wanted to know, was whether Armor Repair modules had completely eclipsed Hardeners. Digging into this we can find:
01/03/2014 - 7147 - 9719 - 15479 15/03/2014 - 8313 - 12438 - 19688 01/04/2014 - 6121 - 9114 - 10816 15/04/2014 - 7203 - 11395 - 10462 26/04/2014 - 9233 - 14058 - 12201 (Date. 120mm Plates, Heavy Reppers, Hardeners)
A graphical thing
Yes, since the release of Uprising 1.8, there has been a slight up-tick in Heavy Armor Repair modules compared to Armor Hardeners, as people seem to have changed their fittings.
Another thing we can see in the market-data is, that players primarily buy militia gear: (Yes, this is not the easiest chart to read.)
Next time, will look at more vehicles, and vehicle modules...

Good job.
People not losing std HAVs nearly as easily as mlt could also be a factor in the sales.
Everything else was as expected I would say. Reppers overtaking hardeners is only natural and missiles are beyond terrible and bugged (or at least very situational), so those salesnumbers were also expected.

Im not suprised
MLT vehicles are just as good as the STD tanks and alot cheaper to lose
As for the turrets once again not suprised, blaster for infantry rails for anti vehicle and lolmissile for lolz
Hardener changes means more uptake in useful mods |

Question, how do you get exact numbers on items sold from http://dust.thang.dk/ ? I can't seem to find any way to get exact numbers, the best I can find is graphs. Or are you just finding them through behind-the-scenes magic?

Interesting post. Cant remember when i lastly readed something like this.
Yep, increase in prize should help, but i also would suggest change in skills (sp) > modules. Difference betwen std and mlt are little power output and time.
Anyway, good job. |

None of this is a surprise, not to vehicle operators anyway.
Tanks are at a reasonable price level although CCP/Shanghai has promised to Gank that soon, next week in fact so no doubt either Tuesday or Wednesday will release the increased prices for tanks. The week or so afterwards the charts will start to reflect it was well.
As a side note it was stated that they would reduce the price of Derps. Which level and how much is unknown, as my personal opinion is they are still playing with the spreadsheet (they do love their spreadsheets at all CCP bases of operations) and have yet to finalize the numbers.
Tanks were massively over priced. The chart would say the amount at at least 3x possibly even 4x.
Also nothing is tracking large bulk purchases. How to fold that in is unknown to myself. At least how to do it accurately. I suspect that knowing the actual number of X in actual Dust inventories would be helpful. Not available is the most likely answer to that though. X being the number of Maddies to ARs.
This F2P game has fallen into the worst path possible. They have made life difficult and definitely less fun than it had been in the past. Instead of spending AUR most of my friends are going out of their way to play as cheaply as possible. Which is a situation that a good F2P game company would try to avoid while CCP/Shanghai has actually forced players to embrace that model. Interesting from a distance but irritating in game.
And so it goes.

Would/do you have any plans on giving tools or access to the general public to find specific numbers?
