If you think New Eden isn't about doing what you want and offending people, then you are sadly mistaken.

So, I am guessing that you are still upset about all those wedgies you received and all those times you were stuffed in a locker.

Problem with censoring names is things that are offensive to some people may not be offensive to others. From what i've understood, Willy is a pretty bad word in parts of the world, here in America it could be an actual name, or something you get when you are scared (that noise gave me the willys). Same with shmuck. Even if your name is HaireebalsInYourMouth, if you are just playing the game and not trolling people why would someone report that person (probably because they were butthurt). If you make an offensive name to endlessly troll people, or even if you have a normal name and you endlessly troll people, then something should be done.
Your name could be Frying Pan Salesman, and my mother could have been brutally murdered by a frying pan salesman, and now your name offends me. It is an endless circle that could wind up with any name getting banned for being offensive. It is all in the eye of the bee holder. Best advice is to just move along if you see an offensive name (racism is different). You may also never wabt to watch tv again if a random name sets you off. Avoid the radio also. And the internet. You should probably stay in your house also.
Just wondering, anyone offended by my name? Been my PSN handle/Gamertag for years, and was given to me by a friend. I almost never think about what it actually says anymore, it's just become my name.
Nobody fcks monkeys AND people you idiot. You either fck monkeys, or you fck people.Theres no in between.

Personally I don't like the bad language in chat or in messages. Sometimes I admit the double entendre names can be amusing, but would prefer more kid-friendly rules.
What bothers me the most is the constant swearing over mics when squadded up. I can take a little here and there, when it really matters, but a constant stream of swearing gets tiresome very fast.

When certain BS levels rise I have taken to muting my mic. It sucks because some warnings didn't get out in time but I feel better not making the other squad members feel the hostility.

Lol, don't join my corp. Dust would be an alien experience without hearing my CEO say "what a bunch of BULLSH!T!" every 5 minutes. It's like the soundtrack of the game to me!
There should be a little more policing of it, for sure, but the example rules someone posted are insanely restrictive, that would be no fun at all!
IMO, if you have a real problem, put in a ticket, it may very well get changed. Judge's advice is pretty genius, too.

Censorship is sweeping a controversial issue or a side of that issue under the rug. For instance, you trying to use the word censorship to cover up the issue of people saying terrible and unfunny **** on the internet is actually censorship. hth
I am afraid I can't follow your line of thinking. Censorship is censorship, the explicit banning of certain words, or expression of ideas. I agree that asking people to not use these words is not censoring, but making rules prohibiting it is. We can argue what then ignoring enforcement of those rules constitutes.
As far as my stating I don't like censorship, that in no way is censoring someone. Saying I don't like something, even if I use strongly worded or persuasive language is not censorship. What is required is the ability to force my like or dislikes by prohibiting it.
Because, that's why.

It's all good, baby. Besides, extortion is a valid tactic in New Eden (provided it is all in-game and not RL, of course).

Point out that you are low on ISK and ask if they are feeling generous enough to gift you some as a thank you for pointing out their name might be at risk of being changed.
I wasn't aware CCP had the Cheka up and running, that's good to know. Also, nice touch on the blackmail, very New Eden and very fitting considering.

No matter how involved they are (or aren't), there are still terms of use for online interactions through Sony's network and CCP's game client. Both companies have policies which players agree to before they can access the DUST client. If you don't follow those guidelines, that's a perfectly valid reason for you to be reported to Sony and/or CCP for the violation. ESRB is irrelevant, but agreed-upon terms of use are a part of your online experience. |

Again,.... Volf I am sorry to read that you received heckles and trash talk from, let's face it, just a player who LOST a match and can't swallow losing. Some players like that put down their controllers, walk over to their kitchen and kick their 10-year old child, or grab their girlfriend by the hair and smack her around the room, as a vent for having lost your Domination match.
These are "Adult" things in our world too... But the fact that they happen, or that some losing players will choose to send you hate-mail with "adult" words.... does not make them something we should accept. The fact that we will always (will always?) have people believing these "adult" actions are not so bad things to say and do, is the ENABLER that helps produce more victims. Volf, I think you can see this in the VARIETY of response your thread got. I personally wish such "adults" could be culled out of our culture and our streets, and our recreational activies (but I know there's a weird sort of danger in my solution too...)
You have the power to REDUCE this kind of bahavior in the game. If they don't follow the rules CCP set for this house called Dust 514, report the person who sent you the mail. We MUST use the tool for reporting players, or relinquish some of our right to complain about them. |
