But shouldn't the profile dampening bonus increase with each unlocked tier?
Wouldn't it make more sense for a STD clack to grant a 5% dampening bonus, 10% for an ADV, and 15% for Proto?
The flat 25% profile dampening bonus for all tiers seems a bit high, right? If these changes were made, I feel it would encourage current clack users to skill past the STD variant.
It would also make make scanning undampened scouts easier. By doing this, any Scout who wishes to be truly stealthy would need to invest into Profile Dampening, equip complex dampeners, and use a Proto Cloak.
What are your thoughts? I hope you'll agree and for those who don't, why won't you? |

However I do agree that the dampening bonus may need tweaking.
EDIT: Also bear in mind the only scouts that can fit a cloak comfortably is someone skilled into that scout to level 5. It's a struggle to fit even a basic cloak on a scout at level 3.

I use to play with these as a kid. I would sometimes do the clacking so vigorously that the balls would crack.

Forcing them to skill higher up would just even things out and stop commados and logis from using it as well.
If a player with Scouts at 1 wants to be an effective assassin, then his or her SP investment for the future should be towards profile dampening, Scout suits, and clacks.
Are you seriously fine with STD Scouts running around, 2 shotting heavies with a shotgun and clack with minimal skill investment? Such humiliation on the heavy's part should be reserved for at least ADV Scouts.
Things should not come so easy. Everyone wants to be viable without spending the time and dedication to carefully plan out their skill trees. This should change.
All we want now is instant gratification and that desire ultimately leads to things failing. |

Some people are of the opinion that dampening bonuses should be removed from cloaks altogether. But then again, there are a lot of ideas regarding changing cloaks. I personally would have made cloaks behave exactly like the personal cloaks in Predator.
But what improves from std-proto cloaks? Something must be improving right? Longer duration, faster recharge time, etc.? Thing is, currently there is no noticeable improvement from std-proto. I'm assuming this is the issue you're getting at. And if so, you're right, that is an issue.

The less you are levelled = the less able you can have up time = less likely to be dampened at any given time.
The old scout bonus gave you the bonus 100% of the time, but the value differed based on your scout level.
New scout Bonus gives you 100% of the value- but the time it is available to use differs based on scout level (and fitting costs - lower tiers scouts are penalised a bit more for being lower tier).
As much as I think the role bonus is unnecessarily limiting compared to other roles - it's a smarter/tactical way to apply the bonus,'since you have decloak to actually do anything, thus losing the bonus the exact moment you are doing something of importance.

Trust me, running a basic cloak on a basic scout takes skill... You let your cloak fall beneath 50% and you have to dedicate yourself to getting out or getting that kill. On an advanced cloak, it's a bit forgiving (in fact, maybe a bit too forgiving). But unless the heavies numb, he should be able to handle himself. Admittedly, there's a lot of uncertainties there, but if it's got to do with the cloak... Well sorry, but I've been sneaking up on heavies in my assault suit since Chromosome, let alone my scout (check the heavies passive scan precision and radius). There are some changes need to be done, but I'm just a little hesitant to agree with you on this particular point.

If your assault suit is capable of sneaking up on heavies, why is my viewpoint so hard to agree with? If an assault without a cloak can pull this off, why can't the same be said about an uncloaked scout?
The cloak should be supplemental to the scout role, not its bread and butter. A few changes here and there to the cloak should not affect the playstyle of a scout. |

No, it's a bad idea and will have a limited effect on scouts while making cloaks far less useful for mediums/heavies.
Re-posted from another thread.
I've seen the suggestion on reducing or removing the profile dampening bonus from the cloak. Just to clarify, this in no way impeeds brick tanked Gal scouts, and harms mediums more than other scouts.
Some maths to illustrate.
Normal scout scan profile: 35 Level 5 dampening scout: 31.5 Proto Gal scout with level 5 dampening/scout with 1 x complex damp: 23.625
Medium scan profile: 50 Level 5 dampening medium: 45 1 x complex damp medium: 33.75 with cloak active: 25.3125
The cloak gives medium suits the ability to get below a straight proto scanner and gain limited invisibility, while only using one low slot. Even with the bonus gone, Proto Gals scouts can still sit below everything below the proto focused scanner or proto scanner used by a proto Gal logi, without giving up anything.
Changing the cloak bonus to be lower at the basic and advanced level has a similar effect, particularaly as medium suits are unlikely to have the fittings to use a proto cloak without gimping their fit otherwise. The Gal scout doesn't notice, and medium/other scouts suits lose out. The only way this would be effective is if the battlefield is flooded with proto Gal Logi's using proto scanners, and that doesn't seem likely unless you've a spare 4Mil SP floating around.
TL:DR In effect this suggestion in no way addresses the current issues with cloaks. The only effect it has is to marginally inconvenience any non-Gal scouts, and majorly reduce the viability of cloaks for mediums or heavies.

Profile dampening is a completely separate function from cloaking. It does not belong as a bonus of the cloaking mechanism, but I agree with your tiers if they won't remove it completely.
Either that, or buff precision enhancer modules to actually match the specs of profile dampener.
The entire scan profile system is reeetardedto begin with. Why can you fit a 40db built-in scanner on a light suit where compactness is key, but you can't fit a 40db scanner on a medium or heavy frame? This mechanic is so contrived it makes me queasy.

In disagree with the first point for many reasons (including what I said above) - but the rest I agree with.
The 'you must be this tall' to scan for X system is silly and stacking complex precison mods should get you something.
Very much seems like something that was made up as they went along. Now our whole ewar system is based around it.
It's like inbreeding - something was going to go wrong sooner or later.
