I am running 4 in my skill for Precision, 2 advanced precision enhancers and A drop ship landed right next to me with a MLT Heavy. I know for a fact there is no excuse as to why I could not pick them up in my Min Scout suit.
This really needs to be fixed. This is a problem. You "fixed" scanners so fix this. It just doesn't make sense that a drop ship can land that close and not show up.
What is ironic is you guys are doing all of these "hotfixes" (did them) and can't hotfix this.

Wait, you don't love the fact that our hugely noisy, and honestly massive vehicles don't show up on radar? Come on! Grow a sense of adventure.
Honestly though, you are right on. Tanks, LAV, and DS should all show up at far longer ranges than suits. Regardless of your passive scan range vehicles should be showing up on radar from quite a ways away.

Agreed should show up no matter what say 75 meters away by default? then add a vehicle skill that reduces this to 50? |

Vehicles really should show up on a passive scan. It's seems silly that they dont. |

Stop looking at your mini map if you can't hear a dropship or a tank rolling then you need some better situational awareness or some better ears regardless of if its friendly or enemy get to a safe spot open up the map if you have to and check if you hear a tank if there's no friendly tanks on the field then its the enemy's |

Your criticism is obviously invalid. How come a Cal Scout can see a double dampened AND cloaked scout 30+ meters away but with the same fit can't see a tank on the radar? Hmmm, maybe it's because the mechanics are broken? Come on. Most people can find the vehicle and sometimes rather quickly. It doesn't change the fact IT SHOULD SHOW UP ON RADAR EQUALLY AS MUCH AS ANY CLONE. |

Yet it picks up installations? How does a vehicle have no dB?

It does, you just need to have the scan *range* to do it, the 10m on most suits doesn't do it as the vehicle has to be practically on top of you and given that vehicles vary in speed from about 20m/s-25m/s for tanks and 25-30m/s for lav's or 50m/s for dropships you have less than a second to find a vehicle moving at top speed on your passive scans unless you're a caldari or gallente scout with 2 complex range amps and level 5 scout skill.

The problem is not in HAV signature, passive scan has a very limited range, in most of the suits (more or less the first circle in the minimap), if you have 15 meters and the HAV is at 16 meters you will not see it. This was my proposal to see things with high Db signature out of the optimal range of your passive scan: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2050833#post2050833

I have tested it. No, it does not pick vehicles up, regardless of scan range. Maybe if you use something other than a medium or heavy suit, you would know that......

But you're not using the suits; they are pretty much turned off. Otherwise, you would be seeing two tacnets instead of one.

It's not the decibel rating, it YOUR PASSIVE SCAN RANGE.
Most suits hardly have a 15m range and your minimap goes out to somewhere like 100-125m iirc. The reason you don't know a tank is right on you is because it isn't in your scan range.
Of course this should be changed, but not because of the reason you seem to think.

Ok so I believe I tested this pretty well. Correct me if I am wrong.
I ran 3 adv prec enhancers and 3 adv. range amplifiers on my m in scout. I then ran to an empty LAV and turned around 180 degrees as to not face it. It then disappeared off of the mini map.

your radar wont save you from tunnel vision and ignoring the sound the big scary tank makes doesn't help either.
I do agree that vehicles should show up on the radar when they reach a certain distance from you.
I don't even know why I bother.

Okay people, some education.
dB doesn't only measure sound. It measures the ratio of a systems power and amplitude. It also measures electronic signals, and this is what is being measured. Sound has nothing to do with it.
Now as far as scanners go, if he's out of range, he's not going to show up. End of story.

I use a scout Ck.0 with range amplification 5 and precision amplification 5. It *does* pick vehicles up.

I do think its funny that a radar system made to pick up the signature of a dropsuit at 10 meters cant detect a GIANT HUNK OF METAL past 10 meters. I guess thats the lure of game mechanics. Th people writing the code get to say what works and what doesnt. To me its like having a .45 and being able to shoot a dime at 10 meters out but yet not being able to hit a barn at 11 meters out. |
