Hardcore Veteran grunts have been known to live off it for months on end while in deployment, unless they get shot. I'm thinking heavy variant suits got a tanning bulb in it so them heavy's don't come out pale skinned when they remove their suits (if ever)

In theory that would might be sensible, but I bet the issues with redesigning the clone's digestion would be problematic; how would you make sure the clones had enough energy for battle? It might very well be cheaper to mass-produce all clones with a fully functional body that just needs a bit of tailoring to suit the end-user without making different ones for capsuleers, for mercs in quarters or other long term usage, and short term usage. Plus, just because our battles only last 15 or so minutes doesn't mean they always will, or that all merc battles would be done that quickly in reality. The time limits are just a necessary game mechanic so we don't get bored.
