& it's terrible in my opinion.
Why?
The Kick on the gun, there's too much on it & it's hard to stabilize while ADS.
It's more of a hip-fire gun than a ADS... |

It's a wonderful gun, I have it proto'd.

I find it quite usable(lv3 op here)
It's got quite comparable DPS to a SMG, has double the range, and only loses in kick.
That means your 'paper' DPS is higher than the implemented DPS by you burst firing/missing, making it quite balanced.

Definitely a hip fire gun, the charge delay is to restrictive for controlled bursts unless all you want to do is give your position away...but it is far from terrible. In close quarters, if you flux and then whip out the MagSec it is easy to rip anyone apart. Just don't flux yourself...especially if you are Caldari. I have been the catalyst of my own demise a few times doing that...ok more like several times. |

That is exactly why it's so balanced. Why not everyone can or will use.
On paper it should be OP as hell, like the Rail Rifle was(/is varying on who you talk to) but
long charge time low ROF high kick slower reload
all make a difficult weapon to achoeve it's potential with. So while some can make it look dirtly OP others are so bad I can take them on with an Ion Pistol, and win. By comparison the SMG is much easier to apply damage with a large ROF decent recoil and spread make it easy to use but as a result suffers from lower range and damage.
I think it's what they were aiming for when they did the rail rifle, unfortunately it didn't quite go as planned, while the AR is undoubtedly more user friendly, the effeciency ceiling is so low that anyone half decent with even the RR will outclass them, this is made worse by the fact that most people will have atuned themselves to the little kick the RR does have, such that just adding more recoil won't necessarily fix the weapon.
Unless your a Computer Scientist don't tell me how Game Mechanics Work.

The kick balances the weapon. I had been concerned that it would be overpowered, having excellent paper stats, but for once CCP did something right.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

It really isn't.
It's still a good gun, but it's not as easy to use as the SMG.

Of course...its rail tech in a SMG. Of course that bad boy is going to kick. And of course she's going to be spitting all over the place when you got her up to your shoulder for ADS.
You shouldn't be ADS with Magsec. At least not most of the time. In general, you shouldn't be ADS unless your opponent is a pretty ways off from you. In most cases you should be hip firing first before ADS

ITs ok, its far better than an AR thou XD
My PROTO Ishukune SMG Prof 5 still owns any other Sidearm IMO.... (I actually main it next to ACR...)
I prefer my Caldari SMG to the Magsec....

I ADS my SMG(M209 Assault SMG) because I run Nova Knives with it so I use it as my main weapon or pistol depending on the map and enemies. If it's city I use Pistol or if it's heavies I use SMG because I dont have to reload as much.

It's more of a hip-fire gun than a ADS... you got to take it to proto to get the kick reduction and once you learn to control the kick its like a pocket AR

I guess I'm one of the few people here who primarily uses the Magsec in ADS, but that's because I use it to compliment my HMG. Given time and opportunity, I generally swap to it when engaging anyone past 30 meters.
I only skilled it to Op 1, but I found that you can keep the Magsec on target when firing in long bursts by pulling down on the right stick at particular intervals. Achieving this rhythm with it has netted me more Magsec headshot kills than HMG headshot kills. |

The Minmatar SMG is obviously a better reactive close range weapon, but the Magsec is still viable at the same distances. The .3 second charge-up time can be worked around by having good situational awareness and letting the gun spool up before leaving cover. I used dual Magsecs (Lagsecs?) for the sidearm event and also found it useful to get a feel for knowing when the gun is about to run dry and switching 2-5 rounds before the first magazine is empty. |

Aim Assist would barely work with this gun consider it kicks all over the place, i've died plenty of this with this gun due to the kick of it... |
