the ar should have its optimal reduced to 30 meters, but give it maybe a few more points of damage and ~200 more fire rate

The AR user would have to get dangerously close when fighting an HMG user with an optimal like that.

Not bad. Not especially good, but not bad.

As compared to the assault scrambler, it definitely has it on cost and fitting requirements.

If I had over a 1million SP invested in CR I know which rifle I'd use over the shotgun.

Unfortunately, I only have those points in AR. It isn't so bad within its optimal, and it probably still outperforms the shotgun in many respects. Im just lucky I find myself engaging in those sorts of ranges. And have a BPO so...whatever.

I use it as an anti shield SMG pretty much. I like it against cal scouts.

Otherwise - I'm holding off on investing in another rifle, cause by the time I've invested the SP, AR will hopefully have the DPS it should have considering the range.

The ACR ***** all over the AR while smiling.

i use it on my gal logi. i feel like it gives you the most control, consistancy and dmg per clip in its range compared to the other assault variants, and it's optimal range is great for where a logi will be on city maps and for dealing with sg scouts you've caught- something i feel is a problem when repping people and providing support.

as well as that, i felt the damage profile was good for the initial engagement, where switching to armor repper or other equipment might become neccessary later, when the enemy is in armor.

It needs a buff, but it won't make you go negative.

Exactly. The Gallente AR should out perform every other rifle's "assault" variant. Likewise, Amarr's base rilfe should be better than any other "tactical" rifle, Minmatar should have the best "burst" rifle and Caldari the best "breach" rifle.

But w/e, not much seems to make sense in DUST 514 anyway. I'll just keep playing with the hope that one day all will make sense.... lol, yeah right!

The AR is garbage for its fitting cost. The combat rifle has lower fitting cost, better range and allmost identical damage output. In my opinion the AR really needs a rate of fire buff to make it viable.

It needs either a RoF increase or an 5-8% damage increase. its good but not quite there when compared to other guns.

The thing why the combat rifle is so popular is that its the ultimate spray and pray gun stright after the HMG. Just press the trigger and you see your ammo count dwindling at a very high rate. And for close quarters the usual rule is: the slower a gun fires the worse it is against people who are strafing. And thats why its not competetive. Oh and the low range takes a part in it aswell.
