When this first came up about cloaked scouts I thought nothing of it. After sometime I noticed the shimmer was not showing on my television as well. I checked and saw I had it at 720P, I switched to 1080P and the shimmer was there. So my hypothesis is why people cannot see the shimmer is due to their television settings. So if you are having issues with the shimmer or seeing scouts adjust your television sets. Just remember Dusties not all clones have the best viewing possible. |

I have an old heavy-as-hell TV. And I wear semi-thick glasses but I can see cloaked scouts, most of the time. So far from 1080P its not even funny.
But people will make up stuff just for the sake of attention wh()ring and knowing some followers will agree with them and for the sake of loving
to complain about any and everything.
Sidearm and Light Weapon Scout, I use 'em all.

Dude do you follow people around on forums for attention. All I was doing was given my thoughts on a problem current in dust. I am an active player who has progressive thoughts. Just because they do not match with yours does not mean they are not valid. |

There seems to be some players reporting no shimmer as well. There could, easily be a rendering issue with the cloaks. Also, It might not be "no shimmer" just a very low level compared to what you are expecting. The blue glow is only noticeable on night time maps, anyhow.
For myself, the shimmer that appears on my character's weapons is not the same as the way the shimmer appears on other players when they cloak.

But the game only being able to display up to 720p does mean they're not valid; at least with 720p to 1080p, 480p to 720p might be valid but I haven't had a CRT TV in over a year now and only vaguely remember what it was like, beyond a pixelated hot mess.

I saw a cloaked scout standing still. I just saw his outline and his pentagon-like body though, but I lol'ed, charged my Scrambler Rifle, and fired away until he died.

You can set your PS3 to force upscaling. The game is still 720p, but the PS3 outputs that onto your 1080p display. It can result in visual distortions, sometimes making things that should be easy to see less clear and harder to make out, and sometimes making things which should be more difficult to see look more clearly visible. stretching a few blue-tinted pixels to fill out multiple pixels' worth of space might make the blue colour more obvious.
I've found that, as I've mentioned in multiple threads, using a "dynamic" picture mode, or turning up the colour and contrast settings on the TV can also improve the visibility of cloaked players, so that's another option that's worth a look for people having issues.
I've seen cloaked players who have been sprinting and NOT triggering the shimmer. I don't know if it's something the player can intentionally cause or not though. |

Okay, time to put this toupee thing to rest.
The fallacy applies, but have you noticed how everyone whose supposedly falling for it spots a cloak when they are not being shot at? Or when they have some breathing room? Or when, for whatever reason, they have the time and gumption to look for cloaks?
The point of the cloak is to sneak around and cause havoc when the enemy is not paying attention, whether because they are suffering from Blueberry Syndrome or are engaged in a firefight. The shimmer is easily noticed when you are not busy doing other things. I've killed many scouts with my tank who thought I couldn't see them moving in to place RE on me. I'm sure there aresome I missed while driving around, but I wasn't looking for them then.
You can still see a still cloaked scout by the way the light distorts around the cloak. Judge's video is a very poor portrayal of the situation. This is no fault on Judge's part, and i rather like his videos on Dust, but on the part of the visual quality of his video. The cloaks are near invisible to see on the videos because the quality is far lower than the actual game play. Even on his video, I saw the cloak working as intended. Yes when you pause frame by frame you can see the scout, even with the low video quality. But in all the chaos of that battle, he would have slipped by unnoticed.
I will grant that sometimes a cloak makes them stop rendering, I personally having observed a cloaked scout disappear from my screen and then reappear a second later as I got closer. Perhaps this is the cause of a lot of complaints, and should be fixed ASAP.
