At the moment there are some roles that are very effective against other roles without being in danger to be raped by other roles in the same way.
It can be easier described by a classic paper, rock, scissor play. In that game each role is very effective against one role and loss against another. My point here is that each option has the same amount of win options as loss options.
Summary from below: Each role must meet one of the following conditions: a.) This role may dominate a lot of roles, but there exists at least one role that kick this role in the a s s. b.) The role may be effective against an amount x roles but is dominated by y roles. X and Y are somewhat equal.
If roles exist that give you an advantage against too many other roles or they have not a real role to counter them, than the game has a problem. Because all will play those roles.
What are roles in Dust from my point of view? Heavy Weapon (HMG) Attack - Commando or Assault with focus to engage. Could also be sentinel with light weapon Cloack Logi Sniper - Any suit mostly important attidude (camping) and weapon. Tank AV Dropship
If AV would not be broken (giggle). The role would be effective against Tank and/or Dropship. But he would loose against all other roles.
A cloacker on the other hand has nothing to fear. He can pick targets and if nothing unexpected happens (like a second guy comes around the corner) he will win. What he cannot handle, he will not engage.
Those examples show two roles. One is on the winning side when it comes to win options the other is on the bad side.
So what can be done from my point of view? Answer: Each role is not allowed to dominate too many other roles or need a real counter (even if that counter role sucks otherwise).
Example for real counter: Tanks. Tanks can be strong and rock against scouts (sniper rail) and infantry and even dropship as long as AV is strong and a real option.
(Negative) Example for not to many roles: Cloacker The cloack is at the moment too strong. The cloack is better solved in EVE. The mechanic is not overpowered in EVE. I show here why: * You cannot cloack (or get uncloacked) if you are too close. * You are slow if you cloack. (This can be compensated by using certain ships, but those are not very strong solo) Together the cloack is good balanced.
In Dust514: * You can cloack again if something went wrong. * You can stay everywhere and have not to fear if someone comes to close. * You are fast when cloacked. * NOTHING can unstealth you. Even bullets, scans.
Here some ideas for cloacking. It is a list of ideas. I do not think that all should be done but some of them would be useful.: * Movement penalty. Make it harder to follow someone in stealth mode. * Unstealth when to close to other infantry. * Cloack delay when hit. (This means not that you uncloack when you are hit) * Uncloack on hit. |

dust is borken atm becuse not all the other classes are in full swing but as for heavys and scouts the over all vision for them is coming into place, so rather then saying nerf nerf nerf, they just need to finish implementing all class gear, as it stands logis and scouts are the only ones with there equipment in game. its unbalanced atm becuse its not all there to balance.
just some thing to think on.

Maybe some classes are missing but I think that is not an apologize for not giving us a certain amount of rock, paper, scissor at the moment.
Otherwise it must be called beta.
I can only point again on EVE.
They introduced more and more ships over the years. But in each iteration they tried (and archived mostly) to not break this principle. Each ship has a role. None was dominant. All were useful (mostly... I know that balancing is an ongoing process). |
