Hello, Steel!
Let me first define my Point Of View: I've been playing Dust 11 months straight. I made a decision during my third week in the game that I'd be a SUPPORT or Logi player, and also that I'd drive a dropship as my MAIN way of supporting a team. That means I've had more than 10 months of dropship paractice, careful SP grind, really disciplined ISK accumulation, and SCROOGE-spending habits.
So now, I am a player who is SKILLED at dropship operating, maxed out the meat of vehcile bonuses my DS needs to be reliable, have almost all the SP to operate both the proto suits I've selected, and all the ISK I need to instantly restock my losses each night, turn a profit each night, and live Gallente-wealthy in Dust 514 (maybe not when we link with Eve, but just for as long as we stay in these FW and skirmish fishbowl fights). I 've pretty much graduated out of the grind, (made it to the other side?)... I'm comfortable and happy.
But I'm also a little chubby... because Logi vehicles (like me Prometheus DS) have not yet been returned to gameplay. Without Logi vehicles, there is little for me to do in my trade. I'm getting out of shape.
Not enough players seem to understand the value of Dust as a game where players ASSIST each other heavily to own the matches (future PC campaigns) way better than a bunch of players running around solo could accomplish. Lots of players don't realize "you didn't win this morning's match, we the supporters and assisters won it for you while you were just killing and re-spawning". Even in my current "limited-logi" capacity, I can rack up a 900 "assist" WP easily with only one gunner or pilot helping me, and we can decide the fate of the match in the first three minutes---that's not a brag--that's how COOL "assisting" can be in this game.
When the "Accellerated" SP events take place, I decline and don't participate, because I know the WPs are MOSTLY rewarding kills, not support actions.
I think WP should be given for more and more SUPPORT actions whereever possible, but be meticulously stingy with the reward amounts. It always needs some serious debating. For instance:
I think transporting one player X-distance, and resulting in his making a kill after he exits my vehicle, should get a 15 WP reward (not 9 WP).
I think hand repping a vehicle that has more than one passenger IN IT at the time should be rewarded with 50 WP (no one but the driver in it at the time = zero WP reward).
I think VEHICLE-scanners only (never hand scanners) should be rewarded WP when they result in kills (5 WP for kills by teammates, 10 WP for a kill made by your squadmate)
It's the POV I described above that gives me this "prejudiced" WP preference... I worry about giving 25 WP for ANYTHING that doesn't involve directly killing or directly healing/shielding a player. That's why I'm reluctant about getting WP rewards just for properly USING a thing. My mind tends to be generous (10 WP and more) for assists that end in a red kill, and stingy (less than 10 WP) for any "support" that doesn't get an opponent slaughtered.
If contributed to responsibly and in an organized list, this would become a great thread you started, Steel! Already I can see different opinions between players about AMOUNTS of rewards and why.
