So everyone seems to have their panties in a knot because of "stealth tanks." What no one seems to realize is that it has nothing to do with the profile of the tank, and everything to do with their suit scan range. That tank could have a 1,000dB scan profile, but if your suit scan range is 10m, he's only going to show up at 10m. Period, end of story, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.
As a tanker, this makes sneaking up on infantry a fun way to pass the time (see how close I can get before he notices and panics.) However, I can understand the frustration caused by this. So let's change how scans work.
Have all suits have a scan radius out to the edges of the tacnet, about 100m I believe. Remove the range enhancing skill and modules, and remove the range enhancement from suit bonuses, to be replaced by something else. Now, change the scanning algorithms so that the higher the profile, the sooner it shows up on the tacnet. For example, a tank, with a profile of 200dB, will light up as soon as he is in range. A heavy, with a smaller profile of 50dB, will show up maybe at the 50m mark. A stealthy scout suit will show up at the 10m range, or perhaps not at all if his profile beats your precision.
Now, have scan precision change how far out you can detect things. For example, the scout showing up at 10m would show up at say, 20m if you lowered your scan precision with skills and modules. That scout can use dampeners and skills to lower his profile, and now show back up at 10m again.
So basically, the lower your scan precision is in relation to the scan profile, the farther out he will appear. So by lowering your scan precision, you are also increasing the distance you can detect someone at. By lowering your scan profile, you are decreasing the distance someone can detect you at, to where they cannot detect you at all if you can beat their precision.
This change means that there are no more "stealth tanks" so infantry don't pee themselves when I start bumping them because they didn't know I was there. And I will be able to detect that pesky jihad jeep before he's right on top of me.
This is all just a brainstorm I had while typing this. Please leave constructive comments so as to improve the idea.

Sorry, that argument doesn't hold water. Before scanner nerfs I couldn't always pick them up on active scanners either. Has nothing to do with people's suit range.
Always the last person to leave. Always the one cleaning up people's messes.

Let's give them ears and eyes... You know, to Hear the ingame sounds a tank makes from 100M+ and to See the light that the tank makes as it drives around at 300M+
Oh, wait, but if they had that capacity, the only people who could be suck up upon would be those who are not paying attention!
Actual attention and skill required to play this game? Oh no. The horror. So dreadful. Let's give them a radar scan that does the exact same thing they should be doing at all times, but does it for them. Next we'll remove all manual aiming from the game, and pull the cameras back so that it is a point and click combat scenario, just like EVE. Cause obviously, paying attention is just too much work for people anymore.

This. I have been ran over from behind by a tank that neither made a sound or showed up on tacnet until after I was run over. I run a scout suit, and have precision and range both to lvl 5.
Stop making excuses for broken things just because they work to your advantage.

You know I think well maybe it's just me but most of the folks suffering from ghost tank but hurt as it were, most likely have very poor situational awareness I.e Madrugar in the kill feed with the sound of not so distant blaster fire and blueberrys disappearing from your radar next to you combined with the large buzzing sound that hav's make as well as the large crunching of their tracks only leads to one conclusion.....ThereIis often enoughclues to determine that there Iis in deed a tank on the field and he is most likely right next to you.

Rather than just removing range amplifiers and suchlike, why not simply have them affect the rate of precision dropoff?
I quite like this idea though.

My passive scan is 70+ meters at 23 db and i still get ambushed by tanks. Unless im wearing my headset i cannot even hear them either.
This is basicalley a tanker saying: I like my crutch ,dont take it away from me.
All infantry should see all tanks in a 70mts radius regardless of the suits scan precision and range. They are way too much of a hazard to be running around invisible to radars.
If i can see a heavy 70 mts aways from me, i should also see a Freakn tank 50 mts away from me.

Being ground into the terra-firma so many times in the past (long before Uprising) I'm so paranoid checking open spaces is second nature now. While on the Combat Engineer ALT when I spot a HAV I'll try to light it up with an Active Scanner for the squad.
I miss the days Vehicles showed up on the mini-radar. It felt cheap of CCP to take that away.

I also still seem to have a tacnet bug even outside of vehicles. The majority of the time, especially with running Caldari scout now, I'm supposed to have a passive scan range of over 35m and I use precision enhancers so the precision is around 20, and yet hardly anything still shows up on my radar unless I'm looking at it, particularly if its behind me. I have heavies not show up, medium frames, vehicles, doesn't matter.
I always keep hearing how powerful these passive Caldari scout scans are and I have yet to see it overall. Once I get level 5 range amplification for complex range extenders, if nothing still shows up on my scans (which by then will be out to 54m or even 75m depending on how many extenders I use) I'm definitely calling BS on that.
Just like last week I was around an objective and some guy wouldn't show up down the hallway a bit as I was standing behind a box. Soon as I stepped out and was actively looking at him, then he would, stepped back behind the box again, and nothing on radar. He was no more than 20-25 meters away either.
Always the last person to leave. Always the one cleaning up people's messes.

I think vehicles should apply differently to scans than drop suits is all. They use very different electronics, and for obvious reasons stealth is applied to them very differently.
