I know this is stupid of me to ask, but can anyone help me on how I should go about on using the MagSec?
I currently have proficiency to three, but even after investing all this SP into it, I can't seem to get any consistent kills against any frames aside from MLT, Starter, and STD fits.
As a sidearm in close quarters combat, I find that switching to it after having exhausted the magazine from my main weapon proves to be troublesome due to its slight charge up time. I get better results from my Flaylock and SMG.
As a main, fighting enemies from a distance usually nets me more assists than kills. I don't know what's wrong, but it seems to lack that finishing power for me.
Is it best used for flanking and catching opponents off guard? I'm lost when it comes to its application. |

It's like using the rail rifle in CQC, it works, just not half as well as the combat rifle or assault rifle would. If you want a reliable sidearm for CQC use the SMG.

I consider my MagSec as a wild sexy lady who's all over the place with her attitude but always catches my back when I need her most.
For me, its my finisher or my last resort. I hardly ever aim down sights with it.

Hey I understand how you feel 0.0 I have the same proffieciency as you do and i have the same problem. If you ask me i would say its not like a normal SMG such as the one in Dust because it doesnt really have the rate of fire and the charge up time gets in the way of the kills. I like it alott but i never found it as a good sidearm to switch to when you run out of bullets but to me it is good for flanking and getting the opponent off gaurd |

You need better aim than you would with the SMG (needs a better name, just like the AR). I think the Bolt Pistol makes a better back up, but whatever. |

I usually like Caldari stuff, but thus far I have only gotten one or two kills on wounded enemies.
A standard submachine gun is more reliable. I guess when they said that the Magsec was to dominate the field and the older SMG, they were pointing at the wrong FOTM. |

I only ever use it in conjunction with a shotgun. It's not a finishing-people-off gun, it's a "I need something with 45m range and good DPS" sidearm for emergencies when you can't close range. Don't be afraid to suffer through the charge up time again if you need to reset the recoil, the delay is better than missing.

Point the aiming reticle over the enemy and then pull the trigger. Keep it centered on the red dot until he is dead. That is the best advice I can give you.

I use Amar scout, gallente, and caldari scouts ( proto) and I have min at adv.
I have found certain weapons work with certain suits and actually I think ccp did a great job pairing racial weapons with suits: Gal=sg Min=cr/md
The caldari scout or gallente work good with the RR and magsec because of the suits natural bonuses.
Pairing it on a caldari scout with a RR and magsec works well, I attack at a range that my RR beats their light weapon, and my magsec moves in when their wounded and out ranges their sidearm.
City maps dump it for a smg, open maps use it as a baby RR/AR.
Works better this way, noton every suitor all weapons, find its partner

Mag sec isn't really a CQC weapon. You don't ever want to fight <20m with it. It get's sloppy. Keep engagements around 25+ and you'll be golden. You'll lose to an SMG almost every time if you get too close.

You have to become one with the weapon. When they gave the kick to the RR in 1.8(which I don't use anymore cuz I found a new love in the AScR), I adapted. You use the recoil to your advantage. How you ask? Simple. Aim for the feet and let the recoil guide you to a headshot.

I've actually enjoyed the usage I've gotten out of the Magsec, it's a fun little gun and it looks cool, plus the range and stats on it aren't too bad. I'd recommend not trying to use it as a sidearm though. Treat it as your main, shoot someone, then switch to whatever light weapon you're using to finish. The gun definitely seems to be more of an ambush weapon, along with the bolt pistol and it doesn't really function too well in straight up fights. Learn to manage that recoil too. If you've only ever played games like Dust and CoD, then this will take time, but once you get accustomed to it, it's pretty easy to work with, even if the proficiency skill doesn't work on the gun yet. Oh, and don't start shooting at people whom you don't have an advantage over, whether that be health or positioning. It's not going to win 1v1 firefights, but getting their health halfway down before they figure out what's hitting them ensures your victory.

It's a spray and pray weapon at it's finest. I'd suggest back peddling and keeping your target at a decent range, or at least far enough that their strafing and jumping isn't too disruptive. It does have a shallow clip so I suggest only start firing when you get into a decent position.

The SMG and SCP are short range sidearms. The Bolt Pistol and Magsec are Mid-range sidearms. If someone is closer than 20-30 meters, you don't want the magsec or bolt-pistol, you want the SMG or SCP.
Magsec pairs up quite nicely with a weapon like a laser rifle or sniper rifle, but it does not match up well with weapons like the AR or CR.
It's kick is bad, but it is essentially an assault rail rifle (minus a few points of damage per shot) as a sidearm. Just stay out of extreme CQB, stick to burst firing it (about 10 shots per 'burst') and you'll probably find it a bit more manageable. DO NOT EVER HOLD THE TRIGGER CONTINUOUSLY ON IT.

I don't mean to be rude, but is it that hard to pull down on the right stick to control the recoil? I've learned this from other games that include recoil.
Also, when dealing with the charge time, try to fire before moving around a corner, or jump when out of cover to survive the first few rounds of the enemy.
Personally, I love the Magsec. It feels like an assault rifle. The sound and damage is amazing, and a nice parity with the shotgun. I would use the Bolt pistol more often, but the ranges are currently bugged, but the damage is still nice. |

Personally, I dont think any sidearm should be powerful enough to use as a main. A sidearm is a finisher. That is where the balance issues come from, people wanna use them as a main.

I have fitting opt 4 in this gun and i have to say....... it works very well as a main weapon next to my GN-13 flaylock. It, like all sidearms, is a 1) hit and run or 2) FINISH HIM!
Either way, it works well on a scout.
