If for some reason you think that using M/KB makes you God and you use a DS3 and think (that guy must be using a mouse, nerf it!" then why not do some testing of your own?
If you are like me and have used the PS1 controller since they had analog sticks (96 I think) and have used Sony controllers up until now, you will suck so hard with the mouse.
Just use it. Once. Then you'll see that it's ******* hard.
I own a gaming PC as well and using a mouse and keyboard, is ******* hard! it's not easy in DUST, you see people who use the mouse regularly complaining saying it sucks, so there's proof that it can't be a God weapon.
Play ANY online FPS on a PC (without having done so before) and you will get creamed.
People are only good at using the mouse because it has been the PCs unchanged input device for DECADES, the good PC players are no-lifes but they have been able to no-life it for 20 years, sometimes playing the same series of shooters, and ALWAYS using a mouse, not different controllers from the Megadrive - N64 - PS2 - XBOX.
Using mouse and keyboard in DUST does not automatically make you fantastic at the game. Instead of complaining and saying it should be removed because it's unfair, TRY IT FOR YOURSELF.
I speak as someone who isn't saying "you can't do what I do" because I do not use the mouse but I have tried it. |

Dude Mouse/Keyboard sucks you cannot reconfig keys you cannot utilize the full DPI of your mouse I have a 8200 dpi and cannot turn more than a 45 degree arc picking the mouse up and putting it back down to continue to move
people say your tank goes from zero to awesome but when i did it it still seemed like i was starting to slug along just like a DS3

it does now compared to ds3, but there used to be a time when kb/m ruled. We're lucky that it's just an emulated support....

Just understand that the kb/m is really poorly implemented by CCP.
There is a workaround that fixes all of your problems: Use GIMX adapter while playing in 576p.

Your DPI problem has to do with the polling rate of your mouse. If possible set it to 100-125Hz, if not then max out your DPI & adjust the in game sensitivity accordingly. But yes native KB/M sucks in Dust, your better off running it though a Dualshock emulator. |

I hate KB/M and would never use it no matter how much better it is for FPS games. Its only better if it is your preferred method of control. I wish they would make KB/M more viable for those that use it though. All my friends and corpmates who use it hate it. A few of them have quit Dust because it is now just unplayable for them and a couple of these guys bought PS3s just to play Dust.
Fix KB/M CCP
Sincerely,
A controller user

They both have their weaknesses and strengths. Controllers have more manuverability overall, we can jump and throw grenades, ect.
The mouse has its advantages as well, point and click headshots, and mlg strafe techniques, ect.
You wont beat a kbm side to side strafing, quit trying. The circle strafe is now FotM.
Yeah, i run an Amarr logi with a mass driver.. what are YOU going to do about it?

I'd be more willing to use a controller if there wasn't as many issues with the third party ones. I own one of these and love using it. Sadly there's a problem with Dust where using the left stick causes the map to open at random intervals. I dislike how the analogue sticks are set up on the standard Playstation pads, so the DS3/DS4 aren't really an option.

Please quote a time in Dust history when kb/m "ruled"... ? In Chromosone kb/m was damn near raw input with no suit turn speed restrictions and i can name many people and corps who were dominating the leader board with DS3..
Ok, so you had your hand full of kb/m users who raped a pillaged pub matches, what about it ? You also had the majority of people still dominating with DS3, even more now with aim assist being so dominant...
Emulated support Is not the way to continue with kb/m as it has turned a lot of people away from Dust and only hurts a small minority that could help Dust in the long run ... |

In fact, I was referring to Chromosome. You can't allow full raw m/kb support on a online multiplayer console game, simply because it would give way too many advantages over ds3 users.
People left because of mouse support? It's a Ps3 game, what did they expect?

Im another guys thats been using PS controllers since PS1 and has played PC games since the 90s and the KBM is just so much easier for shooters I mean I have my whole arm to aim with rather than just my thumb and a little joystick
I'll start my own war, with hookers, and blackjack!
In fact forget the war and the blackjack.

When Dust had raw mouse input the sensitivity scale was absurdly high. Even with the sensitivity turned all the way down you had to be incredibly gentle with your mouse or else you'd be constantly over-correcting when trying to track a target. You pretty much had to figure out where the guy was going, aim there and then wait for him to walk into your sights which made it good for sniper rifles and lasers, and not really much else. The main advantage it had over DS3 for those weapons was you could get to exactly the spot you thought the bad guy was going a little more easily since aim assist didn't exist yet.
If someone got close though you wound up dancing like a ballerina.
This may have been something you could overcome with an expensive gaming mouse, but I'm not spending $80 on a single peripheral for Dust heh. |

I've been playing M / KB FPS games since all the classics like Doom, Quake, UT, CS, etc. and even played CS 1.6 competitively for a while. I'm confident I could take anyone in this game and hold my own on M / KB.
Then again, put me in there with a DS3 and you'll probably think I have Down's Syndrome. People have their preferred method of input.
That being said, M/KB has really poor responsiveness and performance in this game. I'm not technical minded enough to really explain it, but putting it simply playing DUST on M/KB a lot of times feels like you're floating underwater or something. There's this really strange responsiveness from it that isn't consistent at all. I just got a capture card and am actually probably gonna do a demonstration of my play in DUST vs a PC shooter.
As far as balancing goes though it's pretty tricky. Yes, M/KB is tough but someone experienced like me or Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley to name a few could absolutely wreak face if we had perfect 1:1 raw input in this game. M/KB raw input vs DS3 without aim assist and the DS3 wouldn't stand a chance. Thankfully DS3 users get aim assist to level the field.
Right now though it's funky M/KB input vs DS3 with aim assist and DS3 actually comes out superior. That of course depends on the scenario, but any CQC - mid-range fight where aim assist is active and the DS3 gets a pretty big advantage due to how hit detection with aim assist works in this game.
Trust me, I know full well because I use an Eagle Eye (M/KB emulator for PS3) that allows me to use the Mouse with Aim Assist and bullets will literally curve and hit my target when I'm way off. The input is still really sluggish and bad, but it's effective enough that it allows me to still dominate. The aim assist right now sort of works like a mild aimbot. Meaning that as long as you're in the general vicinity of your target the AA will compensate for you and push your reticle towards the target.
This is really noticeable because in any CQC fight I'm pretty good at target tracking. For some reason with the M/KB regular input I was never able to effectively hit my target despite being pretty in tune with his or her movement. The reason was the input was several miliseconds behind my own response. It may be small, but that makes the difference between hitting and not. But when I turn AA on I'm still doing the same thing as far as tracking goes but now AA is compensating for that little delay.
It's not something I enjoy. To be honest I would much rather be using a 1:1 raw input like I would on a PC shooter but I guess this will suffice until or if ever CCP decides to fix it.
Let me play you the song of my people!
