Having just viewed Judge Rhadamantus' video of the cloak it got me thinking about the way in which we all see them in game.
I personally hate them myself and don't think they are needed in game to make a scout viable but that's my opinion and not what this is about. Looking at the video, which is obviously shot in HD, it does highlight the same or similar experience which I myself face in the game where cloaked scouts are pretty much invisible to see let alone track.
this got me thinking about the viewing on my tv. I play this game on a 50" Pioneer kuro plasma TV whose ratings are highly acclaimed ,so to say the quality of colour, contrast refresh rate are of a very high standard. I use a QED reference HDMI cable as the connection between ps3 and TV so again that connection is of high quality in terms of audio and video interface.
I do think that part of why our experiences differ lies in the technology that we use to view and play the game. In the house I have a further 2 TV's in which I've tested the game on and they each emphasise the cloaked scout in their own unique way depending on the type of screen used to play it with. here's my conclusion all of which were played using the same cable.
Pioneer 50" kuro plasma - gas technology used in sceen which makes the scout very nearly invisible Sony 32" LED - Pixels are more pronounced and much clearer to make out the outline. Sony 32" LCD - Pixels not as pronounced as the LED but is more than the plasma.
Whilst obviously not an expansive test,it does tell me that screens do differ and this could well be the reason why we are all of differing opinions as to why the cloak is or isn't difficult to see. I'm assuming that the game is tested on monitors, which in most probability are LED,LCD and due to the technology that is used as the reference to make the game itself is also biased towards it's appearance on screen.
Plasma TV's certainly don't pick up the scout as well as it's tech counterparts the LCD and LED screens,i also believe the size of the screen plays a big part also with smaller screens being an advantage over larger ones. Other contributing factors could be the fact that here in the UK,we operate on 240V/50hz PAL colour system which is obviously different to the US which is 110V/60HZ and the NTSC colour system.
Either way I do think that there needs to be more of an emphasis/distortion,(call it what you like) on the cloak as it's pretty obvious by the complaints it has received that there is an underlying problem with it.
Thanks for reading,Likes would be welcome :)
