I just wanted to share this story because it made me smile.
I was in a Dom late last night. I was sniping from a tower and felt myself falling asleep at the wheel, so to speak, so I headed back to our MCC to camp until the match ended (yes, lame, but as I said, it was my last match and my eyelids wouldn't stay open--this is not a usual tactic for me).
On my way, I notice all sorts of tanks, and decide, screw it--I'll switch to a BPO fit and grab a militia tank to lose before I call it a night. I don't normally drive tanks, but this experience is making me want to spend more time on the treads.
It worked out better than I expected. I was in a Sica with:
2 x Enhanced Heavy Shield Extender 1 x Enhanced 120mm Plate 1 x Complex PG Upgrade 1 x Militia 80GJ Railgun
For the record, with my current skills, this thing clocks roughly 7600 EHP, about 4600+ shields/2900+ armor.
Up to that point, I had maybe 200 WP, all from DUs and team resupplies. Our MCC had about 60% armor left, their MCC had about 15% shields remaining. Anyway, I roll in and take out a Soma tread-to-tread, no problem. I get three infantry kill assists, then lose my ability to maneuver and get taken out by a swarmer and a proto FG.
I respawn, grab another tank, and roll toward the enemy's redline. They bring in another Soma, so I shoot at it a couple times and back track, to lure it in. It rolls up and tries to go tread-to-tread again, to the same end--it pops! This was not before eliminating my shields, as they were clearly the better drive, outmaneuvering me until I made some room between us. Unfortunately, their AV team was still rolling strong and they took me out, but I didn't mind, and I definitely wasn't dozing off anymore.
Even though we lost, it was within a hair, and I ended the match with 1300 WP!!! WTF--1100 WP in less than 5 minutes?!? With an Omega booster, I cleared 25k SP in that match alone--a record for me to be sure. Not only that, my KDR was 2/2, so I broke even there, and ended up only 60k ISK in the hole, after covering the cost of my lost tanks. Not optimal, but I am certain I cost my enemy much, much more ISK than that, so I'll give it a pass. Next time, I plan to go positive across the board!

I'm merely pointing out how easy it is to pick up a tank and gain a **** ton of WP, even if you're 1) not a very good tanker and 2) not particularly rich.
If you couldn't tell from my original post, I'm am not (nor do I have delusions about being) a l33t player, but your reproach was useful nonetheless. I hate to be a d!ck, but you started it: get gud (at grammar).

Not a bad story, but just as a tip, there is no viable reason to brick tank tanks. You either need to speed tank or rep tank or, if you're good, you can still tank with hardeners. Massive eHP on tanks only provides a false sense of security. Only dropships can get away with bricking. Now, if you really want to have fun, use a similar set up but with one or two railgun damage amplifiers. So much QQ

So much QQ I hear what you're saying, but massive EHP is viable because it takes all the thinking out of the equation. I roll up, point my boomstick, and let loose. With my current skills, this is more survivable for me than reps. I don't care if I lose the tank or a die, hence the BPO suit and Sica. This setup is for quickly and dirtily dealing with actual tankers. So, sacrifing extra shields for extra pow, especially if I'm up against more than one tank, certainly would not work out as well for me as uber EHP--again, I am not a tanker, much less a good one. I was a tired dude that realized, in the haze of nodding off, that I can generate a butt-ton of WP in a way that had not occurred to me before, while helping my team to boot.
My post was not meant to be about making chess out of tank warfare--I am not good enough to try that!

Meh EHP sica is overrated- I see it all over the place, but when you've decided it's time to spam Sicas and you want maximum tanker tears, the following fit is much better:
2x MLT railgun damage mod 2x basic 120mm plate for general use, or 1x 120mm plate + heavy repper if you're fighting blasters.
Still clocks in at over 6k EHP, with quite a bit more punch.
Any tanker, regardless of fit and skills, is going to fall victim to this thing during your 20 second window of opportunity. Roll up, preferably from behind, pop both damage mods and 3-4 shot any tank on the field. Sure, you'll get destroyed afterwards, but for 86k, who cares? I'll trade that for the death of an Ion Cannon Maddy any day, all day.

I assume the soma was running blasters? In that case, they get a slight bonus to damage against shields. Meaning extenders won't cut it. If you really want to go for a tough sica build than do this.
Double shield hardener Plate
Or my personal favorite
Double damage mods Heavy plate Heavy Rep
With just one point into armor upgrades this is totally possible. I'm actually SP invested, so I run the double damage mods with a complex rep and a enhanced plate. I've killed many a tank with that thing, running a std turret of all things. But yeah man, tanks are WP making machines. Skirm and Dom I constantly get 25k with an omega, not to mention nearly 400K a match.

Here is my fit for general anti tank (only run Gunnys, sooo) 2x complex shield hardener, 1x complex heavy shield extender, 1x 120mm plate, 1x basic light repper, with a std rail. I have not lost a 1 on 1 tank battle with equal playing field using this fit. So you can have your bricked sica, my baby will not die to one. |

This is a reactive tank fit- you pull it out when there are too many enemy tanks on the field. Chances are, you'll catch them without all three hardeners up, and one damage-modded shot alphas down about 80% of their shields.

Thanks for all the advice and fits, folks! Much appreciated.
I hadn't done the math, but I was dubious about hardeners, since they're active and have rather long cool downs, longer than it would take my shields to restore, anyway. In other words, hardeners seem to me to be nothing more than a temporary EHP boost, since a 40% reduction to shield damage equates to more EHP.
Just as a test case, let's assume the enemy is doing 100 damage/shot after bonuses/penalties:
Enhanced Hardener: 2650 shields / (100 damage *.60 [ie 40% bonus]) = 44.17 hits Enhanced Extenders: 4664 shields / 100 damage = 46.64 hits % difference: 5.3; ie, the extenders grant over 5% EHP
A significant difference, and the hardener has a cooldown of 80 seconds, while shields restore at a rate of 168/s after a 4 or 10 second, taking only 31.76 to 37.76 seconds to restore completely. Looked at like this, hardeners are actually much, much less effective. Assuming you can GTFO, you can GTFI again much sooner.
I do really like the idea of a rep, so I don't have to recall the damn thing if I don't want to lose it, but again, I feel like my current skill level (both SP and gameplay) is inadequate. I haven't run the numbers, but I'd be interested to see how a basic heavy rep (or two) stands up against a proto blaster, just to the sense of a worst case scenario.
Jihad tanks FTW!
