It doesn't work here so what makes us think it would work on PS4? The mechanics will still be borked, level design won't change and CCP will make the same type of mistakes we all hate now. A PS4 client will only make it more obvious.

There are few people playing DUST not because they are playing on the PS4 but because the game has other issues and concerns. If CCP wanted to actually reach more people, they would do a computer port. EVERYONE who played EVE would at least try it than and are more likely to accept the harsh NPE.

Yes, and then switch their monthly EVE subscription model to DUST free to play. How is that good for CCP again?
There are reasons (beyond technical) why the game is not on PC. PS4 on the other hand, I think is a natural evolution for Dust (eventually). |

80 million PS3's sold over a decade does not equate to 80 million PS3's in service and actively used. The vast majority of them are inactive, and I imagine less than 1/10th are frequently used. There is no number to actually calculate that which is publicly available.
However, 7 million PS4's sold is a recent number due to its release and is much easier to compare to an "active audience" statistic. At that point the audiences become comparable, and it simply comes down to which hardware is better. |

I pre-ordered my PS4 from amazon, got it delivered on launch, yet it still sits in a box under my bed...

7 still playing that **** cus there is zero games worth playing on it Well there are Some although admittedly maybe none you want to play. Although you playing Dust does not make you a good judge of games, just sayin.
If you look at the 100M PS3s sold, let's assume ~50% are somewhat functional.
Then assume another 50% are not in active service, moving in to PC games, going to college, getting a S.O. or some other life changing event.
That leave 25M PS3s. With at maximum Dust had < 10K players. That converts to 1/2500 and that is being very generous with the numbers as Dust rarely can break 5K active users. In fact it had trended downwards significantly since 1.8 was dropped. The current 3xSP with 5xWP event picks the number up but all 3x events in all FPS or F2P games do. And they never last beyond the time of the actual event in Dust. Usually the numbers fade back to normal levels before the event is over.
The original PS4 buyers are leading edge buyers. Dust514 is a trailing edge game. Assuming we could get wildly lucky there is no possibility that those early PS4 buyers would buy into a game that has this low a quality of experience regardless of the high quality of their texture pop-in.
With luck and free SP you might get another 1K Mercs. And we would lose them nearly as quickly because this game has too many basic FPS mechanics that are still broken and are being actively ignored.
Until it goes to PC then playing on an antiquated console is fine. I use it as a heater in my office anyway. Although it is a little loud.
And so it goes.

Your saying just cus I play Dust that automatically means I'm not a good judge of games? With no experience of my life or knowing anything else about me?
Holy **** what a prick. I'd love to see your book review of covers. You automatically dismiss Moby **** as a bad fishing trip?
I'm not a good judge for games cus I'm an old fart and I have a specific criteria to be met before I'll even consider playing something but don't automatically assume I'd be no good without any knowledge at all of who I am. In general I don't even like FPS's and I hate PvP but here I am on this game, lord knows why cus even I don't.
Its a ******* opinion - one based on EVERYBODY I know personally who bought the PS4 and is now gathering dust in corners of their living rooms. The games are either terrible, buggy, have very little replay value or are available on previous gen consoles and so not worth the price tag. Some really good games are in the works but they're not here yet.
I'm not even saying 'Porting Dust on PS4 will be a great move' since it clearly wont. It can't compete on that platform. What it will be good for is development as they have other projects like Val that I believe is being developed on PS4 so it seems to me that there could be a collaboration of resources and an easier integration - which is the premise of this game from the get go.

I've got one too. Just waiting for a reason.
Anyhow I don't see why people act as if it has to be PS3 or PS4 when it comes to Dust. CCP has run multiple clients before for EVE, and Sony themselves have said there is nothing stopping crossplay between PS3 and PS4.
Having a PS4 version in addition to a PS3 version just broadens the audience and allows us some additional game modes with higher player-count for the PS4 version. |

If you pre-ordered and got yours in one of the first batches ... and left it sitting under your bed? ... You missed out on a GREAT opportunity ... When they were first released and the stores were all out they were selling on eBay for over $700 .. you could've sold the one under you bed, waited and bought a new one when the stores restocked ... put THAT one under your bed .. and have a couple hundred dollars profit to buy some games to make you want to take it out of the box.
nothing to see here ... move along

I don't think Dust will be able to compete with PlanetSide. I love the Dust concept and gameplay and I would like to see it become more, but the current pay to win model, condescending community, and incomplete state give it a huge disadvantage against the competition.
I know that is blasphemy against the Eve elitists and all those that enjoy exploiting a broken system to stack up and obliterate newbs, but it is still a fact. |

The problems of porting over Dust to the PS4 are many and varied, not the least of which is weening the game off the Cell processor (that, what, 7-8 core processor that costs more than the PS3). That and the game isn't even finished yet, we still don't have the all the racial equivalent vehicles, weapons and suits (everyone forget the Pilot suit already?) much less the environment sockets. And on top of all that, we also don't have full EVE integration like CCP wanted. We're getting there but it's a slow process made all he slower by all the needs of balancing the content we have. PS4 version is coming, but it's not going to be soon enough for even SoonTM. |

Yes and no. Valkyrie will be it's own game that is designed with X86 in mind. The hardware isn't so esoteric that it takes years to master and it doesn't have to connect to Tranquility. It will have all the hallmarks of CCP development. Slow to stagnant growth, crazy OPness in some things and total UPness in others with bugs galore. That is how CCP does it, they do seem to be getting better at implementing player feedback and acknowledging concerns. I would not hold my breath on it being the what everyone says it is going to be.
People get all worked up over lots of things and we mustn't forget that it was a proof of concept for a peripheral that turned into a game. It was not originally designed to be a real game. It has potential but everyone said the same thing about this game and look where we are at. So, yes and no, Valkyrie will work on PC and PS4 but it will probably carry the same track record that the other games CCP has put out.

That's what this game universe is mate. How have you not realised this yet?
However in EVE there are zones that people can help noobs, many different communication tools. Dust has NONE of this for the most part.
CCP wanted to appeal to a different demographic of game players, for many reasons obviously decided Playstation and Sony were the best bet.
The fact of the matter is, the type of game they create CATERS TOTALLY to PC game players (Personal Computer not Pathetic Conquest). If CCP were not so stubborn and decided to take this game over to PC`s I am sure many more players would play and those players that did play would be in for the long haul.
Games on consoles generally die off with time. Games on PC of course still lose interest over time but there is a much bigger % of PC players that WILL AND DO stick to old games / development over time type games.
EVE is a perfect example of this, you could also look at games like Counter Strike, the old battlefield games still have a healthy player base. You dont get this ~as much~ on consoles. |
