Since i'm going to be taking a break from dust i thought i'd make a "fire and forget" post.
In my opinion this is how suits should be in regards to tankyness: -Sent -Heavy weapon users -Commando -Logistics -Assault/Basic medium frame -Light -Scout
sentinels/heavies for obvious reasons.
Why logistics tankier than assault? Their cargo. A core focused alone is 35k and that is just 1 of 3-4 equipment slots which can easily equal 150k before any modules. And about the "uber slots"- CCP has said they are going to be adding modules which increase the effectiveness of equipment,logistics has been future proofed for those modules with those slots currently given. Currently logistics has worse base than assaults which often cost much less,essentiallly making logistics a cloth covered wagon transporting jewels. When transporting valuables it would make much more sense to use an armored car as apposed to a cloth covered wagon. Which is why "scout logis" have become so abundant. Their armor is high speed and stealth.
But assaults are getting shafted too. They aren't much better than medium frames. I believe assaults should only be 2nd to lights in speed,and as a specialisation bonus should be able to have 2 sidearms along with their main. (and yes,a pg/cpu buff is implied) They aren't meant to hold points,they are meant to kill defenders and move from point to point,clearing the way for other suits to set up defenses. A speed bonus as well as being the "logi of sidearms" would keep them focused on this task.
Assaults would keep their slots,be equal with medium frames base tank,be almost as fast as their light counterpart,and get an extra sidearm slot.(if you want a "pure av" light weapon slot go commando,and a 2nd grenade slot would only encourage spam even if "it were only" AV grenades) While logis would have more tank than assaults,but less speed and a single light weapon.
Assaults would become the tip of the arrow focusing on offense,and logistics would become the shaft pushing them forward focusing on defenses.

Scouts should have never gotten a 2nd equipment slot. (and neither should assaults) Cal logistics has 2 at basic and sacrificed stats and weapons to do so. Scouts sacrificed nothing and can almost completely replace logistics on the field,the only advantage logistics has is the equipment bonus maybe...scouts have stealth,speed and 2 weapons. (and they aren't bright yellow) This "buff" in particular has soured my attitude towards Dust and is part of the reason i'm taking a break.
Scouts should be the most easily killed suit. And as the way things currently are logistics doesn't even stand a chance 1v1 against a light suit. It's because they have 2 weapons,this should be changed as soon as possible. Scouts should only have 1 sidearm -or- a single light weapon. Scouts aren't supposed to be for combat,only recon and sabotage (hacking points,if you're too stupid to understand sabotage and try to make it out to be killing).
In a complete game this would be the flow of battle: -Scouts recon an area -Assaults/Mediums receive the intel and move in taking a point -Logistics follows along with Heavies and establish defenses -Logistics moves between the frontline Assaults and the backline Heavies resupplying as need be -Enemy scouts sneak by and hack targets,such as CRUs and relay intel -Enemy Assaults lay siege to defenses based on the intel received -Allied Heavies and enemy Assaults battle over a point while logistics provides support and scouts relay intel -Wash rinse and repeat
Notice,each has a valuable role and they don't overlap even in the slightest.
Assaults and Heavies (as well as basics) are the only classes meant to battle and yet scouts have 2 weapons implying they are meant to solo. This makes 0 sense from a long term standpoint,it might be "lolfun" now but it will be gamebreakingly bad later. Logistics is meant to be support and has been stripped of their sidearm to force players that use them to focus on support (shut up,i know about the amarr logi). Scouts are meant for support and yet get 2 equipment slots and 2 weapons. One would think the additional weight would slow them down in exchange but it doesn't.
I hope that when i return to Dust,things will be more reasonably balanced. Logistics being tankier. Assaults being faster with an extra sidearm. Scouts being dealt with in some way that forces them into a support role,like taking a weapon slot for example.
