Summary: When the battle finder times out (hits 10 minutes) give loyalty points to the squad for whatever faction they are selected to join.
I spent most of the other night playing FW with a single squad. As it hit the end of the night very few people were doing FW for the Amarr, so the group I was with (which was playing for the specific purpose of building up LP for the Minmatar) started spending more and more time looking for a match. At the end of the night we spend more than 20 minutes doing nothing at all other than watching the searching for battle timer increase until it timed out. After two timeouts we finally gave up and finished the night in regular Matchmaking so we could at least earn some ISK if we couldn't earn Minmatar LP. This illustrated clearly a flaw in the current FW system: when there are few players on there is NO reason to keep looking for a FW match. Which of course means fewer people trying, so the FW queue fades even faster.
The solution I'm suggesting is simply make it so that if the battle finder times out, that everyone in the squad gets LP for whatever factions are being searched for. This gives a reward (especially late at night) for people to keep looking for a match during less busy times. If there aren't enough people to fight then at least the squad gets a reward for sitting there Not Getting To Play for 10 minutes. If there are enough people to form a match then this would have no effect at all.
As to anyone who thinks this might create an easy to farm source of LP consider the fact that it only comes into play if there is no one on the other side. Yes, for example it might allow two hundred people to mass search for say Minmatar matches knowing that unless there are people doing the same for Amarr they will most likely get free LP. My counter to that is first the LP isn't "free" they are spending 10 minutes to get it, second this now means that anyone who does want to fight for the Amarr now has 200 potential opponents so the matchmaking can better select among them. Also, while MOST of those 200 would get free LP some of them would now be put into matches so the idea of this being a farming method you can use while walking away from the game is impractical.
I haven't said a number of LP at this point because the Idea is sound no matter how much is being paid out, but my thoughts on the amount is that it should be slightly less than what you'd earn in 10 minutes of playing FW. I think 200LP is about right, it's enough to be a decent consolation prize that you don't feel like you've completely wasted 10 minutes of your life but it's not enough to make people be happier when they don't get into a match than when they do.

Few people in queue results in fewer matches? Also few like to fight for the loosing side resulting in endless queue times, and problems like these.

You would get LP for just sitting there? If you can't find a FW match go for a skirm or something

200LP for just sitting there for 10minutes? Sign me in, this is profitable as hell considering that I risk nothing in order to get that 200LP

Short answer- NO
Long answer- Maybe Yes
Short Explainations- You should never get anything for doing nothing.
Long Exaplaination- I don't see why a match couldn't be created on a district which the enemy side either has to populate or forfeit.... much like in EVE you can plex unmolested for hours if you are lucky, no enemies means no opposition to contest your complexing and thus eventualy system flip.....however in a Lobby Shooter like Dust that presents huge imbalances.
The console community is not really what I would call intelligent...... were more of a yell first making sweeping ignorant statements before we go and ready a book, god forbid that should ever happen.
Unlike in EVE where large alliances flow in an out of FW bringing numbers to either side.....Dust presents no rules or stipulations, consequences or benefits of supporting one FW faction or another and as such the great community gravitates to the pseudo American freedom junkies. What you would see is just hours upon hours of unpopulated Min Fw matches.... all wins, all who did nothing to deserve that win.
I say maybe yes because it brings FW closer to EVE...but a no because of the imbalances it would bring to the competitive aspect of FW.

This, Exactly, is what this idea is designed to work against. FW will continue to have too few players in the queue because right now there's no reason to stay in the queue if you aren't getting into matches.
And if you think 200LP would be too much for too little effort then drop it to 75. This isn't an idea for a way to make LP, it's an idea for a way to get people to keep looking for FW matches that they want to play instead of just dropping out as soon as they realize there aren't many people on the other side.
This is a consolation prize for the game failing to provide actual gameplay, not a reward for sitting in a queue. |

I can't stand behind this. It seems like it'd create the biggest troll queue/scamming-the-system play style. No thanks.

I don't see why people are reacting like this would completely break the game. Even if someone spent ALL their time trying to not get into FW matches all they'd get would be LP. Not standing, not ISK, and it wouldn't effect district control at all. In other words, you could potentially scam the system to benefit yourself, but not to hurt other people.
If you're really concerned about people farming then drop the amount to 50LP. If someone spent the ENTIRE day somehow doing nothing but queuing and NEVER getting into a match that would give them about 17 FW matches worth of LP, less than one match an hour for the day. Not exactly a high threat to the economy. |

Sounds like a "We appreciate your dedication to the Cause, sorry there are no battles at this time. Here's x LP for your attempt to better the Faction" would be nice. Better than wasting 10 minutes for nothing.
