This isn't a new topic but it's been bothering me. I don't understand why we don't get respecs when CCP decides to nerf gear, weapons to being useless. It's enraging when the community, itself, is not behind respecs.
CCP introduces something and sometimes it works on an OP level that could just be tweaked to make it balanced. People spec into it because they are having fun being OP. But then it gets nerfed to **** and now you have these wasted skill points and can't do anything about it.
The bad part is that CCP introduces these cheesy mechanics and they force you to spec into it in order to be able to adapt to everyone else spamming it. For example, when team vision got removed and everyone specced into scanners. You had no choice but to spec into scanners or have someone in your corp spec into it. Scanners got nerfed and, although they can be somewhat useful, you don't really need them anymore. Now, you are stuck with these sps. Even if you aren't a FOTM player, some of these new mechanics, weapons, and gear brought into the game are so cheesy....you may have to spec into it just to keep up with the times.
I hate cloaks and I only specced level 1 just to try it out one day. I refuse to put any real points into this cheesy mechanic but I am forced to spec into its counter. So, even if you don't spec into the FOTM, you may have to spec into the FOTM's counter to be able to do adapt. So, when the FOTM gets the nerf hammer, you may still be stuck with sps that you don't even use anymore because you won't need to counter it.
What prompted this post is the fact that I'm stuck with lvl 5 nades (that I obtained for LaiDais) and they are absolutely worthless. Even if I wanted to use them because I already have the sp....they are a waste of time. 3 proto packed AV nades to destroy a STD LAV and it got nerfed down to 2. This is ridiculous..../vent

Back when scanners were a thing, I just used my scout suit and got under their radar. Worked as intended for the most part.
Now that cloaks are a thing, I just shoot at anything that moves. If you're talking about the dB difference, just because you lower your own profile, doesn't mean you can scan others or that others can't scan you. Unless you have Gallente Scout 5 and CPX dampners, you're still going to get scanned by a Caldari Scout that uses CPX precision mods.

In-game Respecs: another feature to load with game-breaking bugs.
This would mean some prick in management publicly admitting that something is broken and that it happens often enough that we should allow our customers the ability to manage our **** ups on their own.

Respects break the feeling of investment you have in your character, which is part of what makes Dust special. If CCP start handing them out at the drop of a hat we'll all be running around in the FOTM for a couple of months then get fed up and leave.

You know what....actually I will give a response because you are making my point.
You say that your counter for cheesy scans was a scout suit, right? I didn't have a scout suit...so I would have to spec into a scout suit in the 1.7 build to counter it according to you.
Even in the second paragraph you're saying that in order to counter those scans, you have to have gallente scout 5 and dampeners. Which means, that if I had no plans on speccing into gallente scout....I would have to spec in gallente scout and dropsuit profile dampening.
