First not too long ago I saw this : https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=155452&find=unread One of their employees that works on Dust I assume is gone.
Then today CCP announces that The World of Darkness gets cancelled https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=155562&find=unread
Working on four different titles seemed difficult indeed but showed that Hilmar wants to do big things with the whole EVE Universe and the games connected with it: EVE online, EVE: Valkyrie and the other link that needed the most attention for way too long Dust 514.
Seems like Hilmar or someone else in CCP realized that they are gonna need to actually get Dust up and running as it was advertised to look like by focusing on their products linked to the Tranquility server. Actually not just what it was advertised to look like but what it's actually suppose to be, an MMO-FPS Sandbox sort of game.

The studio i work at also likes to bite off more than they can chew. It's a mix of greed and no plan.
I learned in high school to finish something before I took on more. You'd think they had a plan, obviously they didn't think that many projects would be too many. Their employees paid the price for poor management. Not really surprising.

Honestly, I think CCP is starting to realize they're the "Scifi for Scoundrels" company and that's it.
It's a niche they own and own well. The more they focus on growing and expanding this shady universe they've created, the better in my book.
I'm sorry for the folks who lost their jobs. That always sucks to hear. But I'm glad the company as a whole is getting more focused.

Way back in the mists of time, CCP realised they needed a second string to their bow in case Eve didn't last. They took the best available opportunity at the time, with WoD.
Since then, Eve Online has continued to prosper, they've got their second string (Dust), know what their third string is (Valk) and even what's coming after that (mobile gaming). And even better, they've got the strategic asset (New Eden) that ties it all together and allows them to sell new products off the back of old ones.
WoD simply wasn't necessary any more.
I guess if it had been a successful project in its own right they'd have kept it going, but from what I've read that wasn't really the case.
Good luck to all those impacted by the decision though.

It really looked like CCP was taking a huge risk like this with a plan ( it still is a risk with Dust and EVE Valkyrie, just not that much now ) , why wouldn't they right? Well maybe they did but it went to **** because of how much of their money they threw onto advertising Dust 514 last year. Or maybe they didn't expect their programmers to be that bad?

Pretty much this. CCP just needs to stick to New Eden, it's their baby, and they did a fine job with it. They should focus their attention on enhancing and bettering the universe they've created instead of branching off and trying to do new things when they already have a great thing going for them.

Agreed , they need to get this whole New Eden universe set up with EVE online, Dust 514 and EVE Valkyrie working and feeling like it's suppose to.

Bump as we can see that CCP needed to cut some spending by stopping the development of WOD so they can fix the damn servers!!!!!

Hmmm that makes sense since they didn't make any money off of it.

Hopefully this could be a good sign for Dust since that means less focus on a project that never was and more focus on the overall New Eden experience which will impact Eve, Dust, and Valkyrie.

I never liked this WoD thing on the side. CCP should just focus on the New Eden Universe IP and advancing the tech around it. No one will ever catch up to what they#ve achieved so just stick with it and further differentiate what they#re doing from the rest.

Does this recent shutdown of World of Darkness will affect or benefit the development of Dust in someway? http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/22td7a/storm_on_the_horizon_wod_appears_to_be_cancelled/#
Maybe Atlanta Dev team joining Dust development? Because another team working with Dust that would be awesome!!! No offense to the Devs on shangai you are awesome too! and team True Grit is still working with Dust?

I think the WoD team skillset is probably more aligned with Eve development than Dust.
