I was looking forward to this game actually. Why the hell did you even merge with White Wolf then anyway? There are so many open world action games and MMOs out there, but you can't pull it off!? I hope you sell the rights to make a WoD MMO to an actual game developer.
CCP really must stand for Can't Code Properly as I've seen posted here many times.

Sickening. I was thoroughly looking forward to that game, that setting. Vtmb being one of my all time favorite rpgs, and the world of darkness backdrop is just so cool. I hope they do sell the rights and let white wolf's properties go as well as to not tie up the rights for future endeavors.

While I've enjoyed the WoD tabletop rp games I really couldn't see how it would have worked as a MMO

It seemed perfect for an MMO to me Hec and they had some great ideas, but what I have learned about CCP is that ideas and marketing are pretty much all they can do properly. The property could make a really great single player open world game too if it were in the hands of Rockstar, Ubisoft, or maybe Bethesda, but sadly these Icelandic half-wits got their hands on White Wolf's property somehow

The true disappointment is that 56 people lost their jobs because of the cancellation.
Even worse, some,if not all of those people could have been used to help make Dust better.
This is another reason why I don't play Dust anymore, and have completely lost faith in CCP. |

I do feel bad that lost their jobs, but that seems like it is life in the game development business and perhaps they will get jobs with a better company. Yeah my faith in CCP is absolutely zero at this point. I think CCP has some great ideas and some terrific marketers, but that we'd all be better off if the company was bought out by a publisher that has people who know how to make games.

They said that those who weren't laid off were offered positions in other projects. It's highly likely that those 56 people who were laid off were probably not experienced in handling a FPS game development as opposed to a traditional MMORPG game. If they were, we probably would have seen them being moved into Dust development.
But the problem sometimes involved location. WoD development was in Atlanta, Georgia in the US while Dust development is in Shanghai, China. It's likely that those 56 probably couldn't move to Shanghai due to reasons beyond the control of CCP.
Also, why are you letting the development of another game that has nothing to do with the Eve Online universe affect your judgment on Dust 514? They are not even development by the same office.
One more thing. I saw this coming. During last year's announcement of 15 people being laid off from the WoD team and nearly 6 years of WoD development showing no tangible progress, I figured this would eventually happen.
Besides, wasn't White Wolf originally a card game company? CCP did very well in developing Danger Games, CCP's card game that helped fund Eve Online's initial development and is now a popular game in Iceland. CCP could use that aspect of White Wolf and release more card games instead.

I'll tell you why.Because their bad decisions will have a direct effect on the product of Dust 514.They obviously have too many irons in the fire which is more than likely taking away funding for Dust.
EVE is their bread and butter money maker,no one can dispute that, but other than that,I'm willing to bet that at this point, they are losing money on their other ventures.
Dust is hanging on like a loose tooth at this point, and isn't really bringing in any cash for them anymore. They just cut loose a game that was floundering in development, probably because they were hemorrhaging money from it.And mark my words, with the new Facebook deal for Oculus Rift,Valkyrie could be in a lot of trouble.
People getting fired, people mysteriously leaving(wtf happened to Laurino? Will we ever know the full story?),games getting shut down. How the hell can you not be worried about Dust?! |

EVE and Dust are part of the same universe. After Fanfest last year I expected this to happen. CCP's vision now is enriching the experience of New Eden, which means new gaming properties that are connected. That means Dust and Valkyrie. They don't want all their eggs in one basket, and they want to enrich the experience so that they offer something unique when some other developer releases a spaceship mmo (*cough* StarCitizen).

Just look at the amount of players from when it was at 9k when it was "launched" to now, which is never more than half of that.
There aren't any new real players coming to Dust, just people abusing the system making new profiles to send themselves ISK.
It's pretty basic economics. No new players means no new money.

Probably for the better. Now it will end up with a developer who will do it justice. I assume because they will probably sell rights to recoup expenses. |

Because existing players don't buy boosters. Right. I'll just tell the hundred+ players in my corp who use boosters at all times that their money doesn't exist. That's not even counting the whales in our corp who have spent hundreds of dollars. The most reliable estimates I've seen show Dust making a small profit, given the number of developers we've seen involved in the project.
You need to remember that the number of players on the server count is only how many are online at that particular time, and most people only play for two or three hours a day. Multiply that out to get a real player count and then estimate a couple dollars a month per player, to account for people who just don't spend anything on the game. It gives you a rather large number. |

They hedged their bets with Valkyrie thanks to Sony and Morpheus, but yeah CCP are like a minor league team trying to play major league ball

The Facebook deal with Oculus Rift will likely not affect CCP so long as Facebook keeps it going. But considering that Facebook never developed a serious game, that's uncertain.
On the case with Sony, they do have their own version of the Oculus called Morpheus but news on that is still pending.
Also, after taking a second look at the financial statements for the year 2013 posted on CCP's website, there doesn't appear to be clear indications on whether DUST is making a profit or losing money. The third party auditors are not exactly privy at making gamer friendly reports.

CCP was not to blame for this one. The protests in EVE against WIS cause the death knell of the WOD online game. |

CCP suck in many areas (suck such on a strong word) but even the most talented and best funded companies decide to cancel projects and close studios.
That is the way of the industry.
Lets hope some of the retained staff come Dust's way even if its just to speed up content generation.
