Also, when is CCP going to rename these damn things plasma rifles? Assault rifle just sounds so generic...

With those free suits that we received for the Commando Event I put a SG and a Plasma Canon on the non skilled suit.
I found the SG to be very effective even though the suit is slow. In tight spaces and when people came at me close it was a simple switch and BLAM. Not a terrible weapon despite the slow suit, you just have to adjust the tactic with it, use it as a personal defence canon when people get close. Faster suits tend to move in on you to get you, but you can tank a shot and still blast em back usually in one. (especially with the damage bonus.

Could do AR for mid range, shotgun for close range. Plasma cannon is also a good close range option if you want a burst of high damage.

My commando and assault runs a combat rifle always. Even if the combat rifle is nerfed, range + equal dps will leave it as the best weapon.
My secondary for my commando is either a mass driver or a rail, sometimes an AR but only as the secondary.
