Minmatar Assaults were literally the only suits I was skilled into post 1.8. I had cobbled together a semi workable suit, but I p*ssied out with the cpu/pg reductions of 1.8 and jumped ship for Amarr Logi. I don't have any experience with the Matari Assauly post 1.8, but my Amarr logi drops faster now than my Min did before. And thats with close to 300 extra total hp, most of that is armor.
As much as I do love the suit, 2 lows is a kick in the balls, even before I had experienced a suit with more.
Switzerland is small and neutral. We're more like Germany. Ambitious and misunderstood.

I dislike shields myself, and though I haven't ran it for 1.8, here is my old Min Assault fit-
1 Proto Min Assault
1 GEK AR
1 Enhanced SMG
1 Basic Locus Grenade
1 Enhanced Needle
2 Proto Damage Mods
1 Enhanced Damage Mod
2 Enhanced Shield Extenders (I think, maybe 1 basic)
1 Complex Armor Plate
1 Enhances Armor Plate
Obviously 3 Damage Mods wouldn't be as helpful now as they were then. You could go with just 1 enhanced damage mod and slap on 2 perscision (sp?) enhancers which can help a bit (I currently run 2 on my Amarr logi and meh. Not anything to write home about but they do help sometimes). I kept the 2 shield extenders on it because I was only running in the mid 400s armor wise. I see no point in running a Duvolle, the fitting just doesn't justify the small damage boost, at least not to me, though obviously the Fed Duvolle is a good choice. I know a lot of people just don't use them, but Locus grenades are great for the Min Assault since you can do damage without exposing yourself, letting you either start a gunfight with a leg up, finish a fight from saftey, or create a distraction to get away. The needle is good for keeping up and pushing with you. With the Mins low hp you obviously want as many people pushing with you as you can get. And, in my opinion, both lows have to be armor.
I have armor, shields, armor plates, shield extenders to 5, as well as biotics and passive scans to 5. I'd say those are some of the more important upgrades to 5 for the min assault, biotics especially to retain the higher movement speeds when running armor.
