I been saying it again and again.
CCP TAKE OUT YOUR FAIL BATTLE ACADEMY.
Replace it with an actual Battle academy with online co-op missions. Co-op missions against npc's dont have to be tied to your dust characters skill set. This gives people a chance to try out all the guns in the game before buyging them.
Co-op missions that can serve as a tutorial for new players. Objective: Rep that heavy for 5000 points of Armor
Objective: Revive 5 fallen npc comrades
Objective: Teach you to use equipment
Objective: Hack an objective and plant remote explosives
Objective: Eat a taco.
Co-op missions can also give Dust some of that New Eden Lore. Play as an escaped Minmatar Slave... Play as a commander of the Amarrian Military. Go a little bit into the races background and stories. Live the life of a merc.
Vets may be entertained with this for a little while but this will be the first step to improving a new player experience that is often followed by confusion and pub stomps. Teach them how to play. Advertise the eve lore and maybe you will actually convert a few new eve customers if your backstory is interesting enough.

All the new guns. Dropsuits. Vehicles... While are interesting and essential because you were missing content... Do not really fix the real problems in the game.
What should be in 2.0 should be prioritized. I think it should go something like this in order of most important.
Solidify and improve the new player experience without necessarily cutting them off from the rest of the game until they earn a few thousand warpoints. Tbh that idea was stupid from the start. I like my idea better. new game mode. Tutorials. Lore. 3 birds with one stone. I have tried to introduce dust to several of my friends and they all want to quit the game right away. Its confusing, no one ever knows how to use equipment properly. and LOL PROTOSTOMP. At least when fighting a co-op campaign the npc are programmed at a certain difficulty that can appeal more to new players or just add an easy, medium, hard mode selection.
Balancing - gotta keep up with all the QQ and nerf threads right?
Bug fixes - Generally would be at the top of the list.
New Guns. these two are last but they are also essential. You can hardly call it an update if there is no new content. It doesn't have to be alot. a gun. A map.
New Maps.
Focus on attracting more players and keeping them. Building a strong player base. Then you can really get creative with new game modes.

I am all for new game modes but this has to be considered carefully.
New game modes with a declining player base = bad.
It means longer and longer wait times. having people wait 5 -10 minutes for a match as a worst case scenario will mean certain death for the game. While in the short term, it may attract old players who quit. The excitement might boost activity for a while.. it won't save the game. In the long run, the player base is further diversified. You can already see the trouble ccp is having.. Them having to combine the ambush modes because of declining numbers...
If they were to risk another game mode, they should make it worth the risk. Most competitve players will just play the co-op once and be back to pc. New players can play for a few days with 0 fustrations. Totally up to them if they want to try an ambush or a skirmish if they want. They realize they don't know something, they can refer back to the campaign.
the co-op campaign I suggested doesnt just have to be tutorials. that can just be the first part. Add more actual missions and new players who have never played dust before might take them a few days to finish the story mode but by then they will be three times better players. three times ,more prepared.
Its bad enough that they are fighting full proto but I seen some new players play... waving around a nanite injector while your fumbling around with the controller trying to get ammo and boom. Your killed because you took too long trying to figure out how to play. Most people don't just dive into competitive gameplay when they have no idea how to play. This is how dust is presented.
New players do infact come to try out dust. However the majority of them quit shortly after. You want this game to live? stop them from leaving. Most vets have invested so much time into this game, and made alot of friends that they are already pretty loyal. These newbies have 0 loyalty. You need to do what you can to win them over. That will ultimately save the game.

EDIT: This would also serve as a solid way to introduce some sort of PvE storyline based on your character's race. Agreed, it can be a starting point to something MUUUCH BIGGER. I would like to see pve happen but more than that, I want to see this game succeed.

If anyone wants to copy this idea and put it in their own thread. Go ahead. More visibility and exposure to get CCP's attention.
I for some reason, don't like making threads too often. I just hijack everyone elses thread.

I have quite a few ideas on the player market as well as balancing issues with the current isk system in place. But I will save that for another day. I don't want to put too much on ccp's plate or else 2.0 will come in 2020

It is simplistic at best, but could be a stepping stone to something.
I always appreciate good bathroom reading material. jk .
"It is however, important to know that a connection to the Eve market could devastate the Dust economy."
I can tell already that this is going to be good. Some people make it sound like the market will be so easy to implement. With CCP's thoughts... or dare I say it.... "lack of thought" on balancing... Introduction of the market scares me a little.

At least when fighting a co-op campaign the npc are programmed at a certain difficulty that can appeal more to new players or just add an easy, medium, hard mode selection. This happend just right now after i get out of my work. Let me explain, Friend of mine told me "I was downloading Dust514 to see how it is but didnt had the time to play it " then he ask me if it's good?just there, another friend of mine that i introduced before to DUST bump into the conversation and said, "oh that #@)*^, its good but its poop, that game its for people like you(me). I have explained couple of times how the mechanics of this game are but he still feel lost, asking which is a good weapon what i should use, for then to say, "that things u told me to use doesnt work". its obvious, that is a good fitting(play style) for me. If they feed them with a good tutorial, plus all other ideas General Ripper said my friends could be playing Dust. Sorry for my english
I actually have a degree in game design.
You just can't add one thing without thinking about how it will affect everything else. This will always lead to problems. *adds pc - no thought or consideration of how it can be abused*
*adds ingame events - only informs forum peeps and updates game news really late. * (what good is it if not everyone knows about it?)
*tries to rebalance tanks by making standard and milita tanks onpar with proto weapons* (^That made no sense at all to me. They are just going to end up re-balancing everything again anyways when they add the rest of the tiers. waste of time money and effort. standard should fight with standard, proto with proto. if someone uses proto on your standard tank.. get a better tank. It is that simple. Keep the tiers balanced with each other. Don't just add and remove things at random to make it seem like your doing something...)

J4yne C0bb wrote:General John Ripper wrote:CCP TAKE OUT YOUR FAIL BATTLE ACADEMY. Yeah, the Battle Academy sucks, I sure hope they have some better plans for it. I wanted a new alt to test with, so I created one. Joined my first match and proceeded to stomp the crap out of mercs. And I'm not even that good. Went 15-3 with 1300 WP, and blew up a tank for good measure. Most of those kills were scram pistol, cause I was using the free AV fit. One battle, and that was it for me -- back to the protostomping grounds. And my point is not that I'm great -- cause I'm not -- my point is that the battle academy is way too short, with no explanations on how equipment/weapons/vehicles work, etc. My team spent half that match running around trying to avoid that mil tank, until I got sick of it and swapped out to the free swarm fit, and blew it pretty easily cause the pilot didn't know what he was doing either. But none of the smurfs on my side was even trying to swarm the tank -- it's like they didn't even know that weapon existed until I brought it out on the field, or that they could change fittings during a match at any depot. That kind of stuff needs to be in the academy, so noobs aren't totally clueless when they 'graduate'.
Agreed. Way too short. No explanations. Just noobs who don't know what they are doing, fighting against other noobs who also don't know what they are doing. Dust corporations haven taken over the role of tutoring new players. But not everyone uses the forums or is aware of this and most people quit. CCP needs to stop relying on us and make a real game. You cannot make a game without any type of guide on how to play. hell even pacman came with instructions....
I also don't want to see a fail giant wall of text by ccp.. I want an actual interactive tutorial. Where players can test guns they don't own. They can pick up a scrambler rifle and find out "ohhh I can charge it!!!". or... "ohh those blue things on the floor are nanohives? not shields? I been standing on them this whole time and still dying!"
A good tutorial and new player experience can double a noobs chances of surviving a pub stomp. Us vets already know all the tricks to these maps. We are comfortable with and efficient with out equipment. I wouldn't feel so bad stomping noobs if the noobs atleast had some sort of idea of what they are doing.
