Whenever I ask other people about Dust 514, they always say that it has tons of potential. They never say that it is fun or that it shines in any one particular aspect. They just say potential.
What do you think people are waiting for before they classify Dust 514 as a worthy MMOFPS?
Is it bug fixes or some technical facet of the game? Is it a tighter integration with the EVE universe? Is it more players on a battlefield? More maps or larger maps? More planetscapes? More depth of play (more things to do in a match)?
Why is Dust stuck at the level of having potential but not quite meeting people's expectations?

I say the EVE link, because the selling point of "You are a threat to the most powerful forces in the world (Being the Capsuleers, and if you're really an ignoramus, the EVE players), what you do affects the Universe of EVE Online, you can start massive space wars and end empires, all in Dust514" would be amazing. |

What potential? We've never seen the roadmap and continue to get fed pipe dreams while the only thing in this game that ever conistently worked is the micro transactions.
This community is the nail in Dust 514's coffin, waiting to be hammered in.

We need a base to work first... Compare it to EvE online for example.... I think at the start of the game they have mining, battle PvP and 3-4 classes of ship (This is information from my mind and really subject to objection) and I think they had market aswell.
We don't even have a market! We need immersion first (PvE, P2P Market, Industry, EVE / Valk connection, etc.) After this... we will need scale (24vs24... 32vs32)
After that... DUST will surely be a REALLY FUN game and will make people want to really play.
But I really think we are moving in the right direction... the Racial suit stuff was a 2 year old complain and now we have them all (They need a balance pass, but with time we will achieve a good point)

Most people(the average FPS player) just want to log on and shoot **** and make some kills based on their individual player skill. Large SP pools end up augmenting poor gamers with more "skill" which causes the new players to just say **** it and go back to CoD, Battlefield, Titanfall, the next big thing. This game is going to be a niche game no matter how you slice it. |

Not that stuff, we are waiting for PVE, Player Market, Crafting (maybe) and a bit of Open world ( as much as the ps3 can handle )

Everything has potential to be something greater. Its a matter of being proactive in achieving every goal that is set.
That being said, if this game isn't filled with some vitality soon, the potential will be wasted on an absent playerbase.

Risking stupidly expensive protosuits in a desperate battle against the odds as part of a coordinated squad and winning out in the end (or even coming close). Nothing beats it.

Would be nice, but not needed More maps or larger maps? Moot point as most real battles are over a small part of the planet for control of a couple key buildings More planetscapes? Would be really nice to play into the last question More depth of play (more things to do in a match)? More things to do in the match that require different skill sets, but enough ways to win that you don't need those said skill sets would go a very long way.

Answered in bold in the quote. The most important thing is the integration with EVE. We need our action or inaction to matter in the New Eden universe.
PC is nice change from other FPS games, but without the ability to take money from EVE players or get money from them, it is damn near pointless DUST side. Getting and taking money can be done many ways. I am sure that many players would love to shoot down EVE pilots and hear them cry about the isk value of the death. Even if the DUST merc gets nothing of the reward for the kill shot, knowing the merc's actions on the battlefield caused a true ripple in the game universe goes a hell of a long way.
How to get more integrated is a tricky problem to tackle. If you go straight dmg trading and no isk trading, it could go a long way until CCP feels comfortable linking the games directly through isk. Once isk is transferring to and from EVE, in whatever form, then the other links become more meaningful. Maybe a tier above proto must be manufactured in EVE, and are barred from use in basic queue matches because they are outlawed by CONCORD. Using banned weapons in basic matches would cause you to take a security hit and not be able to join a basic match until you work off your time doing some PvE drone matches. You get one death with a banned weapon/armor and then are removed from the match. |

The closer this game gets to EVE the better it will be. Capacitors, Ewar, integration with the market, full racial parity etc. It also needs the FPS mechanics ironed out (hit detection), bugs, not getting stuck on terrain, glitching, being able to walk up curbs without jumping, all of that needs to be near perfect. Once the "core" is in place the game will feel like a finished product instead of a beta. I know it will never be finished, and there will always be stuff added, but the game is very much like a beta with obvious glaring holes in what it was meant to be (e.g. we have icons for missing vehicle types that don't exist in the game).
Having said that, the game IS fun right now. It's the only FPS multiplayer game I've ever cared to play for longer than a week or two. All of the others are stupid and shallow. DUST appeals to gamers who like FPS games and RPGs and are patient. It's filling a new niche in the market that wasn't there before. The SP system also works well for people with busy lives who don't have a lot of time to play games. I can buy boosters, and keep my SP coming in at a decent rate while supporting development. So that's nice. Also I can take a break for months at a time, and still make progress. Coming back to spend banked up SP is a very nice way to return to a game.
Best PvE idea ever!
