I've done well with the rifle logis of the olden days, but I'm finally hitting my stride as a scout. Broke the 50 kill barrier for the 2nd time, and 1st as a scout. How about you original bastards? If you're willing, please share your fits as well.

And insta switching shotgun and cloak back and forth is not a tactic, run a visible scout for a week see how "good" your tactics are.
Best game with a visible scout, with a rifle was 29/0 best game with knives was 21/2 both of these were pub matches and the rifle was a Proto scout but it was a carthum, the knife fit was a dragonfly with the sidearm a toxin SMG, Proto knives but it required real work and tactics, it's not like it is now you they just have to run a little bit to the side of an enemy not a full 2 minute long flanking procedure, and you don't know if some blueberry with a RR will just happen to turn around and mow you down... It just stinks >_> ruining it for everyone else...

I'll grant that I'm not as cool or skilled as you OG scouts, but how am I ruining the game for you? Be careful, falling off a horse that high might cause serious injury.
I've always been a flanker- pre-1.8 that was a biotic min logi, now it's a scout. I've been coming from behind for years before Dust. I feel no guilt for choosing the best suit possible for my desired playstyle as the game evolves. My SG scout BPO, however, was always my free fit of choice.
Tanking a scout is not "abuse". "Real" scouts are always talking about how those who tank their scouts are gimping their fits, so it should only make it easier for you to kill me. Slots are slots, get over it.
I occasionally run an uncloaked scout, simply to prove to myself that I don't need it to do acceptably. I do much better with a cloak, of course, but I go positive with the following fit:

Toxin SMG BPO
MLT Locus BPO
3x MLT Kincat BPO
