Since there are already some very nifty ideas people have about almost every other weapon I couldnGÇÖt think of hearing or seeing one about a sniper rifle weapon for the Amarr.
I was thinking about Amarr weapons. While we think of them as lasers they are more Beam based than specifically light photons. In EVE each ammo type is a different type of wave, like X-Ray, or Microwave, etc. So I though how could that be translated into a cool weapon.
Background: The Microwave Rifle was developed by the Amarr state as the long range marksman tool for their ground forces. Designed for precise engagements from a distance the Microwave Rifle is like no other. Instead of firing a single point the rifle shoots a band of Microwaves on plane, at a width determined by the shooter. The microwaves superheat electronics, disrupt communications and cook flesh.
Functionality: So when being fired by your handy dandy clone you would aim down the sights. You would then use the triggers on the controller to adjust the width of a band you would see on the screen. This band would have a wide dispersion which could hit maybe 5 medium suit clones shoulder to shoulder at 300 meters in game. The band could be focused down to about the width of a head of a clone at 300 meters. Then you would fire as usual. After firing the weapon would automatically begin a recharge cycle maybe about .5 seconds. You would then be able to fire again.
Effectiveness: The broader the band the less damage is done as the microwave emitters spread energy of the shot into a wider area. This would allow you to hit multiple targets or ensure you hit your one target. At the tightest band the damage would be at its highest as the same amount of energy is being focused into a smaller area allowing you to focus on one target to deal the lethal damage you need.
so let me know what you guys think.

@Contaminator Aquarius- This would be a new way of sniping; Multi-targeting. I'm guessing the wider the reticle, the shorter the range as well? They would also need to know what's attacking them, perhaps like a laser pointer, and looks more like a scanner with a wider reticle for shooting. In general the trade-offs for using the sniper would be closer engagement (for multiple targets) and/or a more noticeable sniper. I believe with at least one of these the weapons wouldn't become OP.

You don't necessarily know a sniper is shooting or looking at you now... the only reason you know is because it is the only weapon that acts as it does.
Also I don't think reducing range by increasing band is necessary. you just end up with a significantly reduced damage per shot because it is spread out.

@Contaminator Aquarius- I could agree with the 2nd point you made, but I don't think you understood what I meant by the looks of your 1st one. Apart from the sound cue, and seeing your health drop as you get microwaved, something must be seen that you are being cooked. The 'laser' would be shown when you are firing, which at that point the player could see it protruding from his body, either a thin line or a wide one cooking his body. This would be helpful to alert people as they are being preoccupied by another group of red-berries.

oh I was not thinking there would be a damage over time effect. The whole "cooking" description was just for flavor if that is what you are getting at.

@Contaminator Aquarius- So wait, to make it clear, its a beam that continuously keeps damaging the enemy for as long as you hold the trigger? Or is it just a shot/burst of a laser? So confused now...

In essence it is a beam. but in game no it would not be like the laser rifle. it would auto charge before you can shoot. when you pull the trigger it make boom (or laser sound) then target would get damaged. then it charges again automatically then you pull the trigger when you want to shoot again.

+1, but although I know its not accurate to physics but players who happen to be looking in the right direction should see the laser beam for the instant it fires. Just say dropsuits have a microwave sensor in them or something

they could just restor the laser rifle to its chromazome range values, and have the damage scale at 17, 18 and 19 and the heat cost go from 21, 19 and 17. They also need to remove the visable beam from other players veiw.
after all the laser rifle is the beam laser of dust why not make it the amarr sniper weapon?
I don't even know why I bother.
