Just wondering how to work out shotgun damage as its clearly not 40/42 as stated.
Is this just the amount it dishes out at long range?
If so then how do you work out medium and close range damage. I'm thinking is gives out around 250 at close range without any modules and skills.
Anyway if anyone could shed some light on the matter then that would be great.

Each pellet does that damage from what I have read. I am not sure if higher level Shotguns have more pellets.

i did some testing and the damage listed is the damage per pellet, and I'm pretty sure that it shoots 12 pellets per burst. as for the range, it's really hit and miss. sometimes you'll get almost no damage point blank, and other times, you'll one shot people from up to 10 meters away!

i believe it's 12, but i vaguely remember it being nerfed some time in the past, back in chrome when the shotgun twins still played iirc... so it's 10-12.
so just times it by either number for a general idea.
as for the shots not hitting.. i believe that's hit detection. it feels like its really off this build for the single shot weapons like the scr and sg. |

Accoring to profits, each shotgun fires 12 shots per round.
so that's 12 x 42 = 504 points of damage per trigger squeeze.
The most OP weapon on the Dust Battle Field:
One good logi, one rep tool, and a heavy.

Multiple players have tested in several builds and it always comes down to "pretty sure there are 12".

Shotguns have 12 pellets each doing a damage of 40-44 damage depending on what shotgun it is (std./adv./proto.) and prof. of course. So you can do about 400-550 damage per shot if all pellets hit, which in a majority of cases they don't the farther they are away from the target, unless it's point-blank range.

wuuut, if its a scout then yea that pretty much a given but who has less than 500 armour on a proto medium frame suit??? and when Im fighting medium suits I almost never hit but 40-70% of the pellets unless u let me come REALLY close.
0.7x480=336 u must have a really sh*tty proto suit bro...
Why not just put cloaks on ADSs, Forgeguns on scouts and make heavies only be able to use sidearms?

At 42x12=504 this is all shield damage and straight damage without proficiency.
With proficiency it's 579.6. But isn't a creo and duvolle 44? I can't get on dust to check but I think proto shotty is 44, k5 and crg is 42 and std is 40 unless I'm mistaken.?
If that's the case then 44x12=528 damage to shields or armor
Pro five @ 44x12= 607.2
That's shield damage so for example if to had 350 shields 200 armor you would lose all shields and the rest of the damage would come from the 528 if I understand correctly. But it still kinda makes no sence how it gets divided. Because the rest of the shield damage would become void and fall to regular damage and I'm not sure if it gets subtracted from 528 or if you basically multiply each pellet that equals the proficiency to the 350 then multiply the rest at standard damage but that sounds more reasonable so let's do that.
If you divide 607 by 12 your pellet damage is 50.5 assuming 44 is proto damage. So that means 7 pellets knock out 350 shields with pro 5 an a pro gun. Then the other 5 pellets get multiplied at listed damage, say 44.
44x5= 220 armor damage so a 350 shields and 200 armor suit gets ohk.
My sg numbers could be off but I'm pretty sure this is how damage is calculated regardless.

This is what is so funny, if you cannot survive 1 shot from the shotgun you are a scout and not tanked at all. Very rarely will you hit with all pellets unless you are directly on top of your opponent or the enemy is an idiot just standing still.
Plus the shotgun has abysmal hit detection and rof. You CANNOT miss or you're done. The thing requires so much precision against a moving opponent as it's very easy to strafe a few pellets.
Anyone complaining about the shotgun one shotting must really fear the cloaked PlC scout. That thing can one shot anything but a heavily tanked logi or a heavy.
Really how much damage do people want the shotgun to do? Rifles lay more damage down range in the same amount of time but with 15x the range.

higher level just has more damage per pellet.
40/42/44 in that order for normal varients. i dont know the vlaues for the breach but it hurts alot. i tink the allotek breach shotgun is something like 56.5 a pellet.

There's still something massively wrong with shotgun hit detection. I've had several instances where I've been behind heavies and fired and did zero damage. Other times I've 2 hit them. On a rare occasion I'll even kill someone through a wall or box. It's fun, but also extremely frustrating to use at times.
Always the last person to leave. Always the one cleaning up people's messes.
