I come from EVE where I can pretty much right click anything and do stuff. I just got my first dust-mail and realized a lot of things that popped a ton of questions in my brain.
If someone sends me mail in game I can't add as a contact from that mail?
If I do add as a contact in game where does that list populate? Is it easily seen anywhere?
What are the advantages of in game comms vs. PSN comms? Wouldn't it make more sense to get someone's PSN name to see who is playing DUST easier?
Is there an ingame chat I'm missing that doesn't use a mic? Or is it all vocal?
I see that there is no "dust.gate" where I can check ingame messages off line, and that makes me sadface.

Go to social under the neocom, all your contacts and things such as this are there.
DUST comms are decent half the time so they are quick and easy to use. PSN is just another layer that's not needed. You can get anyones PSN name by checking their profile and add them if you so like.
If you press select (or start) (I think, I use kbm these days) you can bring up the chat channels for text and voice.

1. Contacts are all under your NeoCom under I believe its called 'social'. I thought you could add someone as a contact via mail but if not, you have to search from them or you can do it by clicking on that person inside an active chat channel.
2. In game comms are essential as any sort of text communication is really cumbersome and hard to use, even with a keyboard and mouse. PSN just basically lets you know if they're online but doesn't really lend much to dust514 at all.
3. All chat channels are on the right if you press 'select'. 'start' opens up your neocom (its backwards and stupid). Almost all those chats are all text only. You can only activate your voice in one channel at a time. Each channel flashes when someone has typed in them. If you intend to game without a mic to start, you should really hook up a keyboard to your ps3 to make it much faster.
Note: when in battle, these menus collapse so if someone is talking to you in battle through chat, you're not going to know about it till the battle is over.
4. Nope, go offline, msges are gone. Also wait it only backlogs a set amount so the more people type, you'll end up only getting to scroll up for part of the conversation, not all of it.
EDIT: also, in local/corp chat. sometimes you'll only see a few people (or even no one in chat). If too many people are logged in, it stops showing you everyone in the channel and their name will only pop up if they are 'actively chatting' in it. So don't feel you're all alone out there
