Nice ideas, we already have variable times of day, but battles don't go on long enough to have lighting shifts (20 minutes is about maximum for most battles).
Changing the skybox to reflect seasonal changes is all well and good also, but it would need to have consistency. Not just ala earth, but different planets, different seasons, different orbital rotations. That's a lot of database work.
I'd love to see something like this implemented, but for the time being I'd say relegate it to the backlog until we have a more open-world environment where choosing not only the place, but time and season, can have a meaningful impact on strategy and tactics.

I would very much prefer an open-world feature, but the time of day and season is not something you should control considering that you can't just tell mother nature to halt the planet rotation for a match or turn on the natural air conditioner. I would like to be put into a battlefield where the time of day shifts as I roam around and as the climate changes the longer I stick around.

I think you misinterpreted what I meant. You don't 'control' what time it is when you fight, you can chose to attack during that district's 'night time'. ie... 'Local Time' is 0500 UTC, while planetside it's 0000 hours (midnight) and dark. Or you attack at 1700 UTC (1200 Planetary Local Time) at Midday.
Each planet would have a different daily cycle, different rotations, and different conditions.
