So we've got massive Goliath class MCC's, Speeders, Globemaster class Airship, Enforcer tanks lobbing Artillery Rounds or Controlling drone teams. So next up we have Commander Mode. So apparently in Conquest matches we will have a Commander, someone who sits in one of the potentially numerous MCCs with a weathered eye over the battlefield.
But what powers should he have? What orders can he give? To Who? Can he manage Tacnet Voice Channels?
The way I see it, a Commander neds to be able to manage Tacnet Frequencies. The last thing you want as Fireteam conducting a raid on a Skyfire Battery is to hear the goings on of an AV team over 3km away. Commanders need to be able to decide who can hear who.
Each squad should get there own personal frequency so they can communicate together, but then by the use of the commander squad leads, vehicle pilots or specific memebers can be patched onto a specific frequency and hear those people as well.
In addition to this Commanders need to be able to give fast and effective orders to his troops. He needs to be able to designate commands in enough detail to get them done correctly. So designating pick-up amd drop off points to transport pilots, areas to attack for artillery, objectives for individual squads, this all needs to be possible. What's more the teams need to be able to communicate with their commanders simply and easily.
This might be as simple as giving every squad lead a PTT frequency directly to the Commandefs but sometimes that'll be too slow, we need laser designators that cand send specific support requests to the commanders HUD. He needs to able to deal with as much of the theatre of war as possible without having to talk, because talking is slow and in war you don't have time for chit chat.

We can still dream and hope CCP takes note of our ramblings.

The comms stuff would be crazy. If they bumped the player count up and you were on a 5 letter map or some crazy new game mode....man. Thats a whole boatload of work, just on comms. I imagine you'd be dropping corp owned installations at the same time, OBs as well. Jesus. Not sure i'd want to be that guy lol. Although my mind is way more nimble than my fingers these days.
I loved your thread about transport by the way Monkey, i'd be all over the globemaster thing in a heart beat.
Yeah it is a good point, however imagine the comms system as you had it now, It's either 158 players who can communicate only with squad, so your pretty much running autonomously or 158 players on the same chat channel, meaning you can't communicate as a squad.
At first give everyone AUTOMATIC squad communication, same as now, so that it always assigned. Then give the squad lead PTT capabilities to go direct to the Commander/Commanders. This at the very least will allow squads to communicate amd operate on the Commamders orders.
Giving TacNet Frequencies was something more useful fot when multiple squads are working together for the same objective.
