Glad to have you with us, even if it is a somewhat sadistic experience for you at the moment I don't agree with the notion that we purposefully make the New Player Experience daunting due to New Eden "being a harsh place". Yes, that is true of the EVE Universe. But there is a balance to be had, and we want to make the game accessible to newbies. A better NPE is something we're taking very seriously, and while I can't share anything with you just at the moment just know that there is currently work being done on improving this. If you ever see me in game, feel free to send me a message or shoot me in the face. I have to say this. Through all the bullshit and everything else Ive experienced tonight and previous mentioned days, that last line somewhat made it worth it. Thank you for responding to this thread, but I have no idea what would truly redeem this game in my eyes currently. Ive tried everything now to have a good game including running free suits. They seem to be the only thing i can get even a single kill with in the last few days. Its ridiculous. This event that is coming up I have a bad feeling about as well. It will mean i can get more experience but at the same time, I feel that every single player will be out in force with their squads jsut to "farm" players like me. And that is really what they are doing currently. Im a little mob in the middle of a field that has no chance against any opposition that has been put in front of it lately...
As much as I like to be positive or don't post I'd like to share something. I, like you have a competitive fps background, mostly on PC but I do enjoy my couch and ds3, anyways I've only been playing dust for 1 year, I had an sp gap starting out but not like the one for new players today. So before the current build (1.8) things were a bit different as far as the time to kill, if you initiated the firefight no matter your weapon you could take down a merc. Tactics made a huge difference if you could stay aware of your surroundings, use cover, flanking, cut pie around corners, your suit didn't matter too much (see SIG).
This didnt sit well with a lot of people they wanted to stack armor plates and extenders and be immune to everyone using a less expensive suit. This somehow lead us to where we are today, low weapon damage and have ehp pools. People dance side to side and bounce around (but not cool double jump/ dodge jumps like unreal tournament) making every engagement seem like cheesy arcade game.
I thrived in the low ttk environment, if you got the jump on a few mercs you could easily get a triple kill. It wasn't a twitch shooter and still relied heavily on team play, but HP wasn't the end all that it is now. I could only imagine how hard it is for new players at the moment, every suit from scout to heavy has sooooo much HP its frustrating unloading in someone's back and they just turn around and started unloading on you, element of surprise means nothing in this build, unless your a scout with a clack and shotty then it barely means anything, and is not hard to achieve.
With that said I can't play more than 2 games since the new update without logging off, and I've been crazy active for a year straight. I believe fun>realism yes, but putting more than one clip into someone's back and them still dancing is stupid, it makes the game feel sluggish and lame. I'm not trying to kill the game for you but right now I feel the time to kill is ridiculous, the new player is going to feel this the hardest.
Good luck brother.
If you have a poor gun game no proto suit can help you.
If you have a good gun game no proto suit is needed.
