Actually the range of a Scout ck.0 suit with max skills and max modules is still less than half that of the range of an active scanner. So yes I would say this provides balance. Not to mention passive scans are still not perfected. Every few matches I notice players not showing up on my passive scans for absolutely no reason at all. |

Newsflash - passive scans have always been better than active scans. In 1.7, active scanning was easier to use/skill up and therefore more players flocked to it, but it wasn't characteristically better than passive scans.
Now that active scans are crap, many people are flocking to the scouts for their excellent scan abilities. Just sucks to be a medium or heavy as you're the only ones who don't have this level of intel. |

With max skills AND modules it's about 80%, whilst beating active scanners very handily on precision. Also, 360 perma.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Funny thing is, the best scanners in the game are the vehicle active scanners, (how do you think dropships and tanks find you so easily), which you do get points for, they work like radar, and ontop of that can fit on an LAV so you can literally uncover half the map if you want to. Just saying the infintry based ones have always been crap in comparison they just are more so now. |

Why passive scans are better than active:
1) They are 100% accurate within their scan precision. 2) They are always on and therefore constantly refreshed. 3) They do not require you to put away your weapon to work 4) They do not give your enemy any notification that they have been scanned.
However, passive scanning is only really good for offense if you can get a scan range of about 40m.
Scouts are great in 1.8 since with only passive skills fully upgraded and no modules, they get 30m (37.5m for Cal and Gal) and 36dB (27dB for Cal).
If you upgraded your precision enhancement to 5 and expected to see people in your heavy suit, you'll be disappointed.

Passive scans did work in 1.7. I was an E-WAR scout in 1.7 so I'd know.
You're the one being offensive (and immature). I am saying that passive scans have always been better than active scans, in 1.8 and in previous patches.
The only difference is that the mediums/heavies who complained so much about active scanners got them nerfed in 1.8, so they don't have access to the level of intel that scouts still enjoy. Seems like they were just as reliant on their "crutch", and now scouts are mopping face because they know where everyone else is, and everyone else is hopelessly lost.
