Skills for improved use of TACNET and related systems, let me know what you guys think, post your own ideas, etc. I think skills that improved use of things to do with tacnet would be useful, and cool.
Main skill: TACNET Systems
Enhanced Optics: 10% to tacnet map zoom / level
Ordinance Management: 5% less WP required for Orbital Strike / Level
Ordinance deployment: lv1: 1 extra OB shot lv3: 2 extra OB shot lv5: 3 extra OB shot
Sensor Control: lv1: Can see all RDVs on map lv3: Can see all Tanks on map lv5: can see all dropships on map
Squad Control: lv1: Allows orders to be placed from map view lv3: Allows vehicles to be called in from map view lv5: Shared squad vision of bonuses gained from Sensor Control skill
I think a set of skills like this could have a lot of potential

This can already be done.

The map itself limits it. Next time you are on Fracture Road, try to zoom in on the map. Then try it on a different map. The giant pillar stops you from going in, meaning the skill gives no benefit.
Virtual Riot wrote: Ordinance Management: 5% less WP required for Orbital Strike / Level
How would this work? 2 people in squad = 50% / 43.75% easier orbital? Or Leader only? Makes stomps more stompish as Orbital beget Orbital.
Virtual Riot wrote: Ordinance deployment: lv1: 1 extra OB shot lv3: 2 extra OB shot lv5: 3 extra OB shot
Hard to determine how useful this is. Anything in an orbital is pretty much dead anyway so more shots don't mean too much if they are in the center.
Virtual Riot wrote: Sensor Control: lv1: Can see all RDVs on map lv3: Can see all Tanks on map lv5: can see all dropships on map
This is useful. However, Dropships are already ridiculously easy to see on the overhead map.
Virtual Riot wrote: Squad Control: lv1: Allows orders to be placed from map view lv3: Allows vehicles to be called in from map view lv5: Shared squad vision of bonuses gained from Sensor Control skill
This is certainly not very useful. Level 1 is already a feature, level 3 is only useful if a vehicle user wants to call in a vehicle for his friends across the map or to drop it on someone's head, and level 5 is requires a separate skill to do ANYTHING at all. Even if someone had level 5 Squad and Senor Controlt do the other guys need to look at the map? If you are "the map guy" and are always bring it up wouldn't you just call out targets anyway?
Definitely a interesting thought though. EVE has an entire tree regarding Leadership. Would be nice if DUST had some skills that went beyond "shoots people in the face" or "lets me call in a vehicle to shoot people in the face."

To begin with, this should be in the features & ideas forum. But I'll humor you.
Virtual Riot wrote:Enhanced Optics: 10% to tacnet map zoom / level What does this even mean?
Virtual Riot wrote:Ordinance Management: 5% less WP required for Orbital Strike / Level
This is a tiny bit overpowered, but it came at the end of a long set of pre-requisite skills I could see it.
Virtual Riot wrote:Ordinance deployment: lv1: 1 extra OB shot lv3: 2 extra OB shot lv5: 3 extra OB shot
Oh **** off, absolutely not.
Virtual Riot wrote:Sensor Control: lv1: Can see all RDVs on map lv3: Can see all Tanks on map lv5: can see all dropships on map
This should be available to us without investment into a skill.
Virtual Riot wrote:Squad Control: lv1: Allows orders to be placed from map view lv3: Allows vehicles to be called in from map view lv5: Shared squad vision of bonuses gained from Sensor Control skill
1 and 3: Should be available without an SP investment 5: Not just no, **** no.
Also, you are using the "1,3,5" skill level system that basically means levels 2 and 4 have no purpose what so ever and are strictly an SP sink.
You've got some interesting ideas here, and I do like the concept of squad skills, but you are going to need to polish these ideas so much...

Erm... We can already see all tanks on the map, unless they are under a roof of some kind.
I don't want that ability lost and be forced to spend skillpoints to get it back. |

This is incorrect. You can see certain tanks, some of the time. As I gather it, it requires proximity to other players or certain actions before it shows up on your map. |

No you're wrong.
I can see enemy tanks even when they're still in their redline at the beginning of a match getting called in and rolling away, when no other teammates could possibly be present.
All tanks are usually perfectly visible on the overview map, it's just that red markers only show up when they are in close proximity to team mates.
However sometimes the overview map rendering is bugged making certain tanks and other objects invisible, but that rarely happens. |
