First off all, this is a honest question. I don-¦t have much experience with Shooter Games and hell I-¦m not a game designer.
I painfully noticed that the standard (burst) combat rifle outranges the scrambler rifle. I-¦ve experienced that several times. Of course I raged and **** but now I really wanna know: What is the thought behind that?
Any serious answer/discussion is welcome, thanks. |

I have both weapons maxed out and I don't agree. The Scrambler has a longer range and its easier to put down a decent amount of DPS at long range than it is With the CR due to its kick.
When it comes to the sssault scrambler I might agree. It still has a longer range than both the CRs but its hard to hit consistaently at range due to its shaking and jumping about, you have to burst and the DPS drops because of it.
So to conclude; No.
FU and FU Dust community, you're mostly a bunch of moronic carebear crybabies. Get good.

The scrambler rifle has more range than the combat rifle so I'm not sure what you mean. Also, your question needs a little more detail. The best answer I can give you is that some weapons just have more range than others. Most shooters/games are designed that way. |

So to conclude; No. I also think the CR has the reduced range. What you might be noticing is the reduced damage against armor that the SR has and mis diagnosing it as range fall off. Minmatar weapons have the shortest ranges of any weapon in game. We have the fastest suit though. Although I'm still not sure that our HP penalty for extra speed is worth it.

I meant the semi-auto scrambler. And of course I cannot confirm if these guys/gals used damage-mods or not, but in more than one encounter I was put down by cr on ranges over 50m in a fair and open 1v1 encounter. My shots registered and the opponents did too. I know this sounds like "He cannot be better than me, so QQ this weapon is op!" but it-¦s not. |

I except, especially from you KingBarbar, that others made different observations. Maybe my senses tricked me. I probably will have recording gear in the next months. If I still encounter that I-¦ll have some solid material to judge on. Thanks. |

The effective range on the combat rifle is 70, 77, and 84m (basic, advanced, proto), so it could easily get you from 50m. Every weapon still does damage beyond its effective range, but the damage it does just starts to drop off from there. And they might have leveled the proficiency skill or had damage mods which could greatly help them. |

Generally, the combat rifle does NOT have more range than the semi-automatic scrambler rifle. The only exception is the Boundless combat rifle (prototype) compared to the standard scrambler rifle; with each tier most weapons gain more range, so while one weapon group (lets call it the 1st group) generally have more range than 2nd group, the highest tier member of the 2nd group may out-range the lowest tier member of the 1st group. The range different between the boundless combat rifle and the standard scrambler rifle is very small though. When a scrambler rifle and combat rile are of the same tier, the scrambler rifle will have more range.
Perhaps what you were perceiving was a result of the damage profiles. Projectile weapons like the combat rifle have a 10% bonus against armor, while laser weapons like the scrambler rifle have a 20% damage penalty against armor. In addition, the combat rifles do more damage per burst than a scrambler rifle does per shot; if both of you have lost shields, this all could lead to a combat rifle being able to output significant damage against your armor despite the range disadvantage, while you not being able to do the same with the scrambler rifle despite the scrambler rifle's superior range.
You can check range info here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FYU-aHBH9jmOdTd9LFJu6XlmvINRapJGw71OAE49Qec/edit#gid=0

My bad that I didn-¦t check the ranges upfront properly. 77 meters optimal range on the advance cr, that explains alot. I really did expect that range would be shorter.
Does this table still reflect the current game? http://web.ccpgamescdn.com/dust/news.control/65468/1/rangeprofiles.jpg

Even at 50m even the Gal Ar does ful damage.
Scr's optimal is like 70m, rail is like 80.
CR is about 60-65.
Within those ranges, the aforementioned weapons are doing FULL damage their only possible drop in DPS being kick/inaccuracy.
Only at about 70-100m can you actually say 'i outranged him' albeit, you have a slightly lowered chance of killing them, as at 80m or so, you do 90% of 80% against armor, while the CR does 75% of a 115% against armor.

Ok, my information was not precise enough. With "over 50m" I wanted to point out that this wasn-¦t CQC fights. One particular encout was more at the range of 90-110m. Of course I use KB/M and my opponent most likely had aim-assist so more of his shots hit potentially.
I sum up: Subjective observation. The statistics seems to suggest otherwise. Maybe the dropped me because of 2 more levels in proficiency, damage mods and having more eHP.
Last question which could also explain my encounters: Does the damage drop of linear or exponantially towards the absolut range? Is this for all rifles the same function? |

I don't have an exact answer (hopefully someone else does), but from my experience it seems that the damage falls off rather significantly after passing the effective range limit. The drop off between optimal and effective seems to be less. |

No idea, you'd have to do some sampling with a friend to find out. Damage should be about 30% at effective range though. Beyond that I wouldn't bother trying to take anyone out.
All weapons have unreal curve objects that define how much damage they put out at different ranges. Unfortunately we don't have access to them so the only thing you can do is a lot of sampling to find the info you're after.
