When my side has 16 guys I opt to run OBs, problem is that even though calling down overheated 8 laser OBs is fun, a smart leader wont call them down for the lols (it can get you booted out of FW so easy) and might be bogged down to call it in any case.
The buff am looking for is an Eve pilot can randomly fire his OBs on the map without a dust player designating target. Why?
- OBs come only every 3 mins - If nobody is calling then its a long time to be a sitting duck listening to peeps have fun on coms - you can take away LP awards for no hits - can have a strategic value
Imagine your typical FW romp, say your on caldari, or maybe amarr, 2 sides for famously getting stomped to ****. It would be beneficially for the blueberries who quickly get redlined/clones out if somebody would be nice enough to randomly glass the map for them.
Its a little punt to get eve players to care about dust a little bit, it helps with both games overall FW campaigns and maybe add a tweak that stipulates random fire will only drop on a hostile null cannon location.

Personally, I would love for Eve players to be able to randomly drop OBs, anywhere they chose. The one stipulation, no map info included (troop locations etc). I could see corps getting involved just so they can troll everyone. People spend alot of time worrying about hobo's with guns, they should be worrying about piwates.

I would say, no... While it may seem like a good idea at first, the amount of greefing would be astronomical (literally). Maayybeee when dust bunnies have the option to shoot back, but I hesitate even then.
What I WOULD like is for blueberries on the ground to look up in the sky from time to time. I have waited almost full games on a captured beakon (with my EVE toon), without dropping a single OB just because they don't bother checking if I am there or not. |

They would need to see the map that we use. Other wise most shots will be a complete miss because most of the time. When you shoot a orbital all you do is click the turrets that you want to shoot. Just blasting random places on the map wouldn't help any one.

yea thats why i said have it hardwired to an enemy null cannon to start of with, you might not be getting killed but it adds something at least to the fight |

FW OB Channels, I only know of two for the Min / Gal, dont know about the Amarr / Caldari (I was in an Amarr one, but the owner of the chat came in with his tinfoil hat on and kicked a load of people)
Min = Chosen Matari Gal = Turalyon

Thoughts? Random is not viable. The EVE pilot needs to have a popup window which shows the game map, as you would see it if you were placing an OB. Then between seeing the game map, and talking on Coms, the EVE pilot would have all the information they need to target the Orbital strategically.
As fare as griefing, an EVE pilot has to be involved in Faction Warfare to drop an Orbital in Faction Warfare, so penalties for killing friendlies could be applied through the standings system.

you don't want random stuff like that... You do want to get EVE pilots more involved with the OB's. In FW, they can at least get a benefit like FW loyalty points IF the OB kills stuff below. Which brings up a HUGE imbalance problem for the Minmatar FW side....
EMP OB's cannot kill anything! That means they receive no loyalty points for doing OBs for you which is part of why you don't see a whole lot of OB support for the Minmatar in FW.
Again, CCP ****** **** up. 8(

You know overheating just damages your turrets but doesn't make OBs stronger in any way? Only thing that matters is the amount of turrets.

Thoughts? I would enter fw just to fire randomly on planets. And o know for sure a lot of eve pilots want to do it too |

As someone that tried to drop OBs for FW I think the system needs some serious help. Instead of randomly dropping OBs I think it would be more beneficial that a better system for Eve pilots to be aware of what districts fights are on. Very few of the channels get used anymore. It came down to the point that I would que for battle on my Dust merc just to find locations to drop OBs on. The majority of the time even when I did find a location if I didn't stay in battle no one would drop the OBs anyways.
The whole system was a good idea but is seriously flawed. Easier ways for Eve pilots to be aware of these battles would dramatically increase the Eve to Dust link, IMO. |

An Eve pilot can see a battle on his overview as soon as he enters a system due to the satellite being marked, if another OB pilot is already there.
Also there are many FW chat channels in dust that pilots can join to coordinate with, that should be left alone as FW is roughly occupied by 60% pirates who will do nothing but troll.
OB pilots need more options in dropping ordinance, they already are at a disadvantage of being glued to the district if they want to assist and are pretty easy victims.
Intel is up to the pilot but damnit CCP let us do something more than just be sitting ducks. |
