That causes us to spawn in without or bonuses and skills applying? Can someone explain this to me? Because frankly this is quite a game breaking bug/glitch, at least for me.
When you spawn in a Min Scout only to take 3 or 4 seconds longer to hack a point and you die with 1 one bar left on the hack
When you spawn in an Amarr Assault and have your ScR pop on you after ONE charge volley
When you spawn in on an EWAR fit Cal Scout and a TANK SNEAKS UP ON YOU
When you spawn in with a Forge Gun to kill a pesky tank and watch as they nonchalantly roll away while you shoot blanks at them
So, CCP, hotfix? Explanation? Please feel free to enlighten me as to why this issue exists or give more examples of how this glitch can royally **** you over

They offer no excuses or insights into the matter because they simply cannot. If they knew what the problem was and how to fix it it would have been done by now.
I just don't understand how it was all fine and dandy in 1.7 then all of a sudden 1.8 comes around and this new issue arises. It's odd that its fixed by simply waiting for a while to see your armor and shield values finally fill up to know that your skills and bonuses have applied, for some reason these skills are not loaded in with the suit as you spawn.
I'm no programmer I have no clue, I just know it blows

Which is why Play/Stress/Bug testing exists. As most people have mentioned, how do you not look at the partially filled semi circle indicating your health and not think; "hmm wonder whats up with that"
Instead its:
"hmm wonder whats up with that"
"Idk man should we like, diagnose the issue?"
"OH LOOK IT FILLED UP, were good! READY FOR RELEASE!"

"Clearly simple mistakes"? Until you've learned to code, you have no right to say that. If you think you can consistently write completely bug-free code, you should go to school right now, because those skills will make you a very rich man. The fact is that writing bug-free code is impossible, even in projects that have had the combined work of thousands of people for dozens of years (see the Linux OS), and fixing one bug can produce ten others.
Agreed but I think the reason why people, myself included, are so up in arms about it is because of the blatant lack of internal testing CCP does. Coding is tough and you're right writing bug free codes are near impossible, but again that is why internal testing and screenings are done, there is no excuse to release 1.8 with a bug like this in the code

- CCP gave some new guy the job of doing the LP store suits and the monkey had no idea what he was doing.
Literally nothing else would be an alright excuse for this mess up. This isn't the only things that was broken. All of the broken Cal/Amarr scouts and light frames at launch. Messed up skill multipliers which included skills that weren't corrected until a few days ago.
I feel like I've waited so long for racial parity that when it came out I chose to ignore all the blatant issues that came with it and instead was quite literally content, I don't thing being content about the game is what CCP aims for us to feel.
Also, this game has one of the weakest color schemes I've seen in a Sci-Fi based game. No Gold for Gold suits (I did not forget CCP, dont you think for a minute I will forget your blatant false advertising) and nonsensical camo for everything else.

Awry Barux wrote:Oh I agree- I'm not upholding CCP as some standard of coding excellence, other than the negative example. But the idea that CCP should "omg just hot fix it already" is unfair and displays a remarkable amount of ignorance about the complexity of the task. It's like hiring a contractor to build an addition onto your house, and when they run into difficulties because of a shaky foundation and existing parts of the building not being up to code (Unreal Engine 3 lololol), you stamp your feet and rage at them.
As for the excuse: they waited as long as possible to release the patch while still meeting their March promise, presumably trying to fix this bug and others. This is probably why they couldn't give a more concrete release date- fixing bugs like this is not a systematic process, really, it requires one coder or a team to have a crystallizing moment of clarity. Ultimately, they must have decided that it was better to get the content out than to delay the patch for bug fixes, and I think I agree with them.
I agree with this as well +1 But lets get those hotfixes rolling!

if it bugs you that much stop playing till its fixed or use cheaper gear.
what would be nice is if we heard something in an offical channel or fourm post it what was going on instead of the random dropping of stuff in threads.
But you know, with all thigns considered; I still love this game. What other game can you keep coming back to adapt to a new paradigm shift, new names rise and old names fall, the game is constantly changing and by waves not subtle shifts. When I look at EVE and read about how that developed I can accept Dust's flaws that much more.
So yes CCP, I absolutely love your game. But understand that if we don't pressure you then we risk not letting Dust reach its full potential like EVE did.
So ahem, back to the topic; "DOWN WITH CCP, BURN THEM! WITCH! WITCH! WITCH!" Hotfix please :D

Hahahah my favourite line was this one ^ But seriously CCP, sort this problem out, it's definitely THE most important thing to get right at the moment as it affects EVERYONE playing the game!
It happens way too often for it to humor me anymore :( When this bug happens in conjunction to the Audio glitch where Tanks become silent (on top of constant looping of RR firing and ScR charging sounds) its absolutely silly that Tanks are not permanently marked by your passive scans on your minimap

The fact that it misfires shows that some parts of the game are applying the skill, and other parts are not.
It means that the battle server isn't calculating until after you're spawned in. Hence why the client knows exactly how much max HP you have. Or in terms of the forge gun it's the client thinks it can fire it faster than the server would allow.
So what makes it load in after a while, and why does it have to load in in the first place? Did it have to do this pre 1.8 as well and it just did it quicker and more efficiently or is it something new for 1.8?

Or in terms of the forge gun it's the client thinks it can fire it faster than the server would allow. Hmm I haz a theory. To be able to have equipment skill bonuses, since equipment is server-sided, CCP had to move all skill bonus application to server-side. However, due to pre-existing performance issues and having to frequently re-do skill application whenever someone spawns, as well individually applying skill bonuses to each of the dozens of pieces of equipment on the battlefield at any given moment, and then distributing info on these applications to every client, the skill applications get pushed down the stack in favor of hit detection, damage calculation, player position tracking, etc. This would explain the variable amount of time it takes before applying your skills. Edit: to be clear I'm totally spitballing without knowing anything about their actual code base, I'm just bored.
Until a blue tag comes here to disprove your theory this is the currently accepted hypothesis!

Eventually it will sink in. Sustained ranting only works for getting things nerfed or giving CCP pause over a critical decision. Drama, oh how I am entertained by thee. Threads with discussions like this one are good to.
Well this is what this thread is aimed at; good discussions about the issue. And with jokes aside I'm not trying to flame CCP, I want to help CCP make my favorite game better.

Eko Sol wrote: From a code perspective there are things we will refer to as "Procedures". All of your character data to include skills and passives are stored in a database of some sort. We'll call it the "database". The Database is in the backend and is independent of the application server. The application server is the server we connect to in order to play Dust. When we load into a match a lot of Procedures" are executed...ALOT. These procedures connect to the Database and pull all sorts of things. This would include Installations, spawn points, some graphics, a checksum (something that checks that everything is correct), and character builds/fits and passives.
So they made a change to the process of checking passives. They made a change on some level in these "Procedures" (that contain complex functions, custom functions, math, code, etc.) that has created a loading delay that wasn't there before. The best way to imagine it is that 32 players have different configurations of different things and different passives. The server processes all of this and then has to propagate it to all of the clients (PS3) or just yours. Whatever the change they made was has created delay.
Changes that can be made (based on my personal experience) would be things such as:
-Code "optimizations". Sometimes Optimizations are actually not really optimized because they weren't tested in production. You'll find that you can have a really strong theory but then in production there were elements that weren't calculated
-Version Changes. Let's say that Unreal Engine released a patch to the dev software. That patch may have updated in a way that uses more resources for loop logic which is really common. Loop logic is something like this (note: I'm not using real code for many reasons)
1) X = character that hasn't had passives processed 2) Check Character "X" 3) Check Passive skills 4) Apply passive skills and propagate to clients 5) Go back to step 1
In programming, patches often can take a very good code and make it bad code because of new features.
-Operating System changes and updates. Sometimes a simple BSD or Unix or MS update for security holes can jack up a whole lot of backend stuff.
I hope that sheds a little light. BTW this isn't theory, this is personal experience and I have a lot of it on the backend sides of things. I maybe wrong but whatever it is would be in line with what I posted.
Although there are other things I hope this gives you an idea of where things can be an issue.
EDIT: You can apply this logic to a lot of the bugs we are seeing. To include misfires of forge guns, etc.
+1 Great explanation. Thank you

Idk man I'd be happy as a clam at high tide if they would identify, diagnose and hotfix issues like this very quickly, and by very quickly I mean under a week or so.
If you cant have a QA/bug testing team; fine. If you don't have the ability to put out a test server; fine. But at the very least figure out a different way to address the issues.
I haven't raged this hard ever since I read a particularly amazing post from days old (Interestingly enough Delanus, it was on the Subdreddit subreddit at the time) that talked about raging and psychological warfare in dust, but my god when I pull out a 200k ISK suit who's only highlighting characteristic is its bonus and I die because for some reason these bonuses don't apply then well... sigh

If someone asked for my opinion, and they didn't. I would say, go back to 1.6 and collectively fix as many bugs, lags and glitch issues as you possibly could. 1.6 was pretty damn close to being balanced. I love the new toys as much as anybody else. But let's face it. Not a one of them work as their intended.
Slow down and don't worry about these guys wanting a fresh pair of panties in every update. What we, the serious, long time players want is a stable platform. A character that fits our play style and persona. Not an update that forces you to become something your not.
1.7 was a Tank Spam sandwich with a slice of Rail Gun with a cool Combat Rifle to drink.
1.8 seems to be the rise of the Scout with cloaking.
Some may rail on my post and some will surely have something ignorant to say because he/she was abused by their father. The facts are serious though. 75% of my corporation do not log on anymore and each update drives more away. Most were veterans and some scrubs but any player that turns away from DUST hurts us all.
TBH I'm inclined to agree with you but the same way you believe in CCPs vision for Dust and EVE I think you must believe in the number one saying for this game; Adapt or Die
The new meta is now high SP players who have more than 1 role (I have 3) that they are able to switch to and dominate in, being specialized will get you far but having multiple specializations will get you way farther.
I've been raging and complaining mostly because I've been forcing the Amarr Assault into every situation because the Amarr Assault is my specialization, it has been my generalist suit ever since 1.0 came out but now with the newly buffed Scouts and Heavies and the nerf to the ScR (proficiency changes) situations and circumstances where my Amarr Assault would excel in become rarer and rarer.
I could easily switch to my scout suit and counter the opponent's counter to my assault suit but I guess I'm just stubborn and slightly (very) masochistic.
Point being, you can't let the game beat you, constantly adapt and figure out how you can beat your opponent because were not only fighting each other, were kinda also fighting the game.
But, with that said, glitches like this are not acceptable. I would be all fine and dandy dying countless times in my Amarr Assault if my bonuses worked properly and I was dying due to my own stupidity but no, the game is literally hindering my ability, making it hard for me to excel in my chosen role and absolutely screwing with my muscle memory; something I've gained from supporting and playing this game of yours for over a year now CCP.
