I haven't used a starter fit since I got my first proto suit (that was around 10 million sp, I'm currently at 40 million)
Using advanced gear costs anywhere from 25k to 60k, if you use proto modules it can be more like 40-80k
But still, even with an average suit cost of about 50k, you're looking at about 4-7 deaths before you start losing isk
I don't understand people that run starter fits to grind isk...I mean what else are you going to spend the isk on?
Part of the reason I still only have about 40 million isk is because I have so many modules and suits in my inventory that I've bought too many of and still need to use up because I always change my playstyle.

The reason you don't see proto suits in videos is because the only time players get good scores is when the enemy is just a bunch of noobs running mlt fits.
I used to have a few recordings of matches against some really good players, but I deleted them because my scores were pathetic. What I mean by that is I only get say 15-20 kills instead of 30-40, even if the match was really tough (where both sides were pushing hard)
It's almost always the unbalanced matches that players upload.

Don't get me wrong, I don't just upload the unbalanced matches, and I'm not trying to "show off" by posting videos of me killing a bunch of noobs.
How to put it...the more balanced matches are actually pretty boring to watch. Even though they might be tougher, playing against proto suits you don't just rush in and kill everything. It ends up being more of a run in, get one or two kills and then defend an objective from a squad of protos, immediately dying. It's the same thing over and over again of me getting a few kills then immediately getting rushed.
I mean yeah there are the exceptions where maybe I'm running a squad of protos against another squad of protos and we get an intense match, but the majority of the time if I squad up with protos we just end up stomping the enemy team and it's boring gameplay again.
That match where I got 7k warpoints was the perfect conditions. Both sides were pushing as hard as they could, almost everyone on both teams were running good fits, and I just so happened to be in the middle of it.
The only reason I don't ever upload videos of our team getting stomped is again because it's boring, and because why would you want to watch a video of me spawn-dying the entire time? It's not like I just make videos and talk about stuff on top of them like pyrex. I use a specific fitting or tactic to show what it's like. The purpose of the video is about the gameplay, focusing on the action.
I mean, why would anyone want to watch a dust gameplay video of me running back and forth across the map only to die after 3 minutes of running? And then have 10 of the 15 minutes of the video literally doing nothing but running around. Yeah, that's your average game, but I'd rather upload interesting footage instead of the boring landscape and roads.

1. I play solo a lot. Not being in a squad definitely helps
2. Voice chat is almost always turned off when I'm doing that, 4+ players talking in a chat channel, team chat, or squad chat is the main source of lag in this game.
3. I think the capture box makes it look that way. Often I will review my videos and wonder why my frame rate is so high when I really had a super laggy match.
