Cloaks made this game unbalanced and more importantly not fun. Everything else in this game is more or less balanced but when you combine Cloaks with shotguns (potentially a 1hk weapon) how do you expect people to have a chance to fight back? I can't think of one game (except for the obvious other free to play game on steam) that does cloaking right and balanced and dust is another case for that. Hopefully the people that are working at CCP (truly a great team of devs) notice that this device is not a true fix to the scout suit but something that makes shotguns too powerful.
Why not give cloaking a specific sound when the uncloak occurs? Why have it so you can instantly fire your weapon after an uncloak? Why not have a system where either the person cloaked takes more damage or is instantly uncloaked when hit? Why have cloaking work with hacking?
Not only does this make me confused on the receiving end of a death by a cloaked opponent but I don't understand why someone would even want to use this in the first place, considering that it takes all the challenge out of combat. |

Get a bigger screen or adjust your screen settings, god damn. My Gal Sent has yet to die against these mythical cloaked shottie bangers because 1.) I'm not stupid enough to be by my lonesome and 2.) I have god damned eyes and a sense of "Places you never walk into unaware without support" (Which cloaks never changed anyways)... My tv set is weird for DustGǪI see the 'shimmer' but no color tint on it. Also when I'm turret gunning in a vehicle and the pilot turns on hardeners it completely blinds my screen, washing out everything beyond the turret gun.
Also, most good scouts won't try to be too obvious and will try to use the cloak in the middle of the firefight while others are too distracted by the enemies they can see to worry about the shimmering.

I ******* hate the excuse "you can see them" because you can see a outline of them when they are moving and by the time you recognize where they are your already dead. I also forgot to mention that when you stand still you are completely invisible so a tactic that is used is just waiting for people to run by and get killed.
The idea of cloak should be, at least in this game, to get better position not just running up and getting instant kills. I get what your saying that you can vaguely see an outline but what about night levels? what about interior areas?
No matter how much you disagree you can't argue the point taking away visibility is equal to being fully visible.
I would be fine with this cloaking if there was a direct counter to it or some REAL downside to using it.
The link below shows cloaking that is more balanced through weapon draw time and a sound of the cloak being used while being uncloaked, also more visibility to opponents.

I just think the cloak in PS2 isn't abused like it is in Dust. The open maps still make it hard to sneak around in PS since you can see so far. No doubt PS2 has issues, it's still much more enjoyable for a casual gamer.

If we ignore the game issues, lag, etc... Here's the list: Remove cloaks, minor tweaks some classes with overhaul to assault class needed. Add racial parity in equipment, weapons, vehicles. More, better maps.
Why the fuss, just get rid of them. |

As much as I hate the cloak, I'm not saying remove it completely. I feel CCP can make this right but if they dont want to do it right they should not do it at all.
Removing something should be a final recourse, but if they make it so cloaks are a frontline tactic instead of a stealth tactic (i.e. attack over position) then I would remove it.

Why the fuss, just get rid of them. Because they add depth, richness and interest to combat. It creates a demand for a huge variety of fits with enhancers, range extenders, damps, etc instead of just stacking max brick tank. The cloak allows the scout to take down sentinels, which everyone would be QQing about if there weren't scouts. This game is rock-paper-scisors, you nerf rocks and paper and you're left with everyone running around with scissors. It's f*cking boring in a shooter that's supposed to be different, reward diversity, with a broad array of fittings and play styles.
Cloaks are powerful, and need equally powerful counters. Active scanners were probably nerfed too hard. Nobody wants to return to "scannerina" days, but increasing the scan arc and reducing the cool down a bit would be a good place to start. The solution to cloaks isn't to nerd them into uselessness like the f*cking flay lock. It's to buff the counters and refine the parts that are broken (you should be visible before firing). Cloaks instill paranoia and fear (like snipers) this is an interesting combat mechanic because we have stuff to loose. It makes combat more intense and you never feel safe anymore. That is a good thing.
Ways to fix the cloak without making it pointless: 1. reasonable, brief weapon-fire delay after decloaking (maybe 1.5 - 2 seconds). 2. Nerf cloak's damp bonus: either completely remove it, or at least have it scale with cloak tiers (complex damp from STD cloak is unbalanced). 3. decloak from taking damage with recloak delay penalty (maybe 4 seconds). I've heard different mechanics suggested for this including the cloak's duration taking damage from the incoming fire. E.g. if your cloak takes 20% damage from fire, then getting hit for 100HP's will reduce your cloak by 20 seconds. If that is less than your remaining time on your cloak, you'll decloak and have to wait for your cloak to recharge to 50% before reactivating it.
Ways to buff counters: 1. Add new active scanner module. It scans in 360 degrees with a range of 20m. The scan can be used constantly with no cool down, but it only scans while trigger is down, and you can't move while using it. Scanned targets immediately vanish from Tacnet when you release the trigger (i.e there is no lingering scan duration). This would not replace existing scanners, but be an additional option.
2. Buff assaults. Most assaults are underwhelming, and could use some love to help differentiate them from scouts. I suggest fixing the Caldari and Gallente assault bonuses, and giving all assault suits one additional slot with additional CPU/PG to fill it with something decent.
3. Add a deployable module that decloaks anything within a 10m radius. It lasts until destroyed, and is easily to visually distinguish from other existing deployable equipment.
4. Add thermal binoculars as equipment. You can detect everything with heat but won't have your weapon out, and you won't get tacnet's help, so many of the heat signatures you see will be from friendlies.
Best PvE idea ever!

I much prefer 1.8 cloaks than 1.7 Rifle bonanza. You think being 1 shotted is bad (and really you must run no tank to be 1 shotted) remember when you could die in the same amount of time from 75m out. Ya that was dumb as ****.

Here I was thinking they had fixed number of slots and CPU/PG requirements for a reason. If you want to counter something, counter it. It's that easy. What you shouldn't do is whine about using the obvious counter to a very common tactic because then you couldn't also brick tank your suit. That just makes you sound like the kid who wants both candy bars while in line with his mom at Walmart and throws a fit when she tells him that he can only have one. |

DO THIS CCP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMsj5GBd8RE Precision enhancers and scanners. You're welcome haha. So I can have less armor against other opponents? http://www.quickmeme.com/img/bd/bd04d0b78a981e2dcd51eacb0ea68447a626953647fa5f2a7daa643efa771590.jpg Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize you want your suit to be able to do everything.
I accept your apology.

Well, if they don't like this change I want to see how it will go in the future cause there is so much more that has to come and change. If people don't like cloaking.. then what is this boring community about then..
