So here is a sica fit, that required one point into armor upgrades to fit.
High slots 2x damage mods
Low slots Std Heavy repair Std Heavy plate
Turret Railgun
With this setup, you can enjoy 3 to 4 shotting most every tank that comes into your sights! The heavy plate let's you absorb more while the rep keeps you full up on the armor side. Using just a little bit of cover to allow reps to work, you can dominate any tank on the field, AS LONG AS THOSE 2 DAMAGE MODS ARE ACTIVE.
Best of all, it takes very minimal investment into the tanking tree. Less than 60K SP! And it's VERY cheap. Make those pro tankers cry like the babies they are in their 500k isk proto tanks!
For those of you who are invested into tanking, I give to you my OP gunnlogi fit!
High Slots 3x Shield hardener
Low Slots (unless you are heavily invested into proficiency skills, these will most likely be filled with CPU upgrades) Armor repair CPU upgrade
Turret Railgun
Using this setup, you can still drain AV QQ like a gushing waterfall! Hardener nerf got ya down, don't worry, just slap another on there and it's like it never happened! Be amazed as swarms STILL DO NO DAMAGE, or watch as forge guns tickle your tank butt. Better yet, slap on a blaster and really drain those AV tears!
Gauging your threats correctly, you can cycle these things for much longer uptimes, using 2 at a time and a 3rd for becoming invincible! Laugh at those silly railgun tanks as they unload entire clips into your ass, wondering why their damage mods aren't 3 shotting your tank! No instead it takes 5 shots WHOOO.
Watch it though, getting jumped can very well mean losing, as that first shot form a double damage modded sica will nearly crush that small HP pool on your shields!
Enjoy CCP's "FIX" to tanks! How's it working for YOU?

All AV weapons but the plasma cannon deal armor damage. With ammo count and heat buildup, you're already attacking in waves, so you may as well use the tanking type that favors cover.
Also: Anti-vehicle: active tank Anti-infantry: passive tank
Didn't I tell you yesterday, passive tanking is a myth?
I can't even begin to tell you how many tanks I killed that were passive tanking with my forge gun. It's not viable against any decent AV.
Active tanking or go home! (or unless you are a maddie, in that case passive rep away!)

What I've noticed is that it still takes just as many volleys to kill people, only I die faster now. I can't really fit full tank mods because I need a damage mod, but unless I ft full tank, I die before I get the kill... Still working on a reliable fitting.
Triple hardeners is pretty ace still, yeah.
Triple hardeners on a missile tank!
I actually have a fit for that, but I don't use my missile much anymore. Good for killing armor tanks, bout it.

I can't even begin to tell you how many tanks I killed that were passive tanking with my forge gun. It's not viable against any decent AV. Active tanking or go home! (or unless you are a maddie, in that case passive rep away!) I withstood repeated engagements against a proto large missile by passive tanking. While active tanking lets you stay like an idiot in the open for 30 seconds, passive tanking works well for using cover, and ultimately lets you stick around for much longer before retreating.
Longer? I've got 30 seconds, if I use 2 + another 30 seconds at 40%, Plus, by the time the last one wears off, I'm back to my first 2.
Now, I don't discredit the use of extenders over active hardeners fully. But to actually achieve the most from a single extender, it must be used in tangent with the shield hardener. A pro level extender, is barely enough to cover the shot from a single MLT turret. Not to mention the CPU/PG costs of extenders.
If you really wanted to "passive tank", armor is where it's at. Stacking extenders won't allow you to duel tank. But using 2 hardeners and a single extender with a heavy plate and repper, you would be nearly unstoppable, but still need to active tank. I myself fit a tank with 3 extenders and a heavy plate, with hopes of using my shield recharge, and it actually was effective. Until I faced double damage modded sica, that while lasting longer than usual, was still a short battle.
I understand that using cover, elevation ect to your advantage to work the shield recharge. But at the same time, you are allowing them to do the same. And no amount of cover will help you when I go looking for you. Even if you were to use the OP railgun, more than likely you will need to overheat. I would also assume that you were using maybe an ADV turret or STD turret as well, neither of which will break the shields before an overheat.
It's cool that you defended against a missile tank, but if you were running shields, with extenders up, that's totally believable. He can't drop you in a single volley, and before his reload is up, you can be reppin the shields back up. Missiles don't do well against shields, nuff said.
I call my fit an OP fit, because it can take several tanks at a time. Blasters do nothing to it, anything not damage modded struggles with it, missiles go WTF when they pew pew at it, swarmers are useless, forgeguns are slight tickles, ect.
Like I said, I like it when shield tanks try to passive tank, without passive resistances. Free kills.

2 reps and a hardener, 2 hardeners and a rep + high slots on the gunloggi front there are various double hardener setups with a utility slot instead of a damage mod, where you stack HP in the lows to make up for the shield penalty. I personally don't use them, but they do exist. My personal Shield tank fits are currently in flux. When there are finally some good games in PC I'll speak more on it.
How does a double hardeners setup fair nowadays anyways? 25% seems like such a low number, that I would go for the extra complex rep over another hardener.
