I tried it on and off for a while on a minnie assualt up until 1.8, I liked it but it just wasn't enough to use it regularly, when 1.8 I reinvested the minnie points into core skills to go along with my Gal Scout. Ended up strapping the laser rifle to my "medic" fit and it fits like a glove, nice suppression from range to give me time to revive a team mate without them getting shot.
In response to the Kincat: I dont actually have any points in Biotics at all, it's on my to-do list, but it never really called to me. If one affected base movement then it'd be another story entirely. Coincidently, that's why I use Ferro's. Unlike sprint speed, when Base speed is gone, it ain't coming back.

The first high slot alternative that comes to mind are Myofibril Stimulants.
