You can steal vehicles. Kind of.
There's a delay before you can hop into a friendly vehicle, giving the owner first option when it's called in (unless they get killed). If it's an enemy vehicle, you can hack it then jump in like it was yours.
If you mean you should be able to KEEP a vehicle after hacking it, then YES PLEASE. As a tanker and a friend to a couple of Dropship pilots, I support hacked vehicles being kept as salvage (unless destroyed or hacked back) by the hacker. |

Think about it. If you steal an item that means ownership of that one fit is transfered. in the case of a BPO vehicle though that means that the original owner would still need to retain the BPO but the theif would either also get a copy of the BPO (which is clearly not acceptable since then we all would end up with BPO LAVs) or the game would have to change the BPO item that was stolen into a BPC upon the time of the theft leaving the original owner with a BPO and giving the BPC to the theif. T
his is apparently some really confusing programing and I don't blame CCP for not taking it on at this time. They have other things that are a bit more urgent to worry about. I have an idea.
BPO = BluePrint Original = infinite supply of item. BPC = BluePrint Copy = limited supply item. ITM = ITEM = not a blueprint, but the actual physical object spawned in-game.
All items should have a "decay" effect. Once produced, the item can't be reverted to a blueprint for permanent storage. After a fixed period of time (for argument's sake, lets say a week), an item should become useless. The removal of the item wouldn't occur until the downtime following its expiry, so you don't have to worry about it becoming invalid mid-battle and vanishing out from under you.
Fittings would all be shown with values for both the number of ITMs and the number of BPCs (or "BPO" if applicable) you have for the fitting. The game would use ITMs whenever they're available in favour of producing from a BPC.
This means that when you call in a vehicle, you're setting a time limit on how long that vehicle can be used for. Eventually, it WILL decay and disappear. If it's a BPO, you can just spawn more, no problem. But as long as you have the ITM version, the game will use that instead.
When someone hacks your vehicle, they're not hacking the BPO or a BPC, they're hacking the ITM. They steal that, no problem. They get a cool tank or whatever, with the full fitting shown in their list of stuff. But after that decay period passes, it will disappear from their inventory.
Also, players would be able to buy and sell ITMs once there's a player market, but they would display their expiry so you'd know how long you have to use the item, and they'd be worth less than an unused BPC. |
