There's no objectives, you don't need fast transport. Even LAV's are pointless because the game ends quickly, and you spawn near the action.
If the team calls in madrugars, they'll probably just spawn camp the whole time, ending the game with something ridiculous like 60-0. If the other team calls in something to counter it, it gets blown off the RDV half the time. Most players aren't smart enough to call in tanks away form the action it seems, and of course the new 2-HAV limit just punished the tank drivers who know how to properly counter the enemy HAVs.
If you're "lucky" enough to be on the team that calls in HAV's first, the tankers will hog all the WP.
Ambush is often the first game type newbies will enter, so they can practice their gun game without having to worry about game strategy.
Inb4 the "gitgood" elite types say "you need to learn to AV"--- AV's a different problem. Tank spam can be dealt with in other game types with good tactics, but ambush is a small zone, with a very short timer, and filled with pubbies who aren't in cohesive squads, they're trying to learn the game, or simply want to solo a match because they have 10 minutes to kill on their lunch break.
CCP, I know you're proud of the awesome vehicles you've designed, but it's okay to not have them in ambush. Look at games like Halo and Unreal Tournament. Allowing vehicles in deathmatch is like playing Hungry Hungry Hippos with a real hippo. He's just gonna eat the whole game and it'll be over before anyone has a chance to have any fun.

Because vehicle people need somewhere to chill too.
And the two vehicle limit means AV has far less to contend with, so 2 AV people should be able to counter the vehicles easily. Of course they are vulnerable to infantry attack, but this is by design.
However, an infantry only game mode would do wonders for this game. Perhaps have ambush be infantry only with 50 clones, ambush OMS has the two vehicle limit we have now, and Dom/skirm has the current 6 vehicle limit. This would require separating ambush and OMS in the battlefield dear again.
Best PVE idea I've seen.

I was sort of thinking this too. Ambush with vehicles would be a lot more viable if the game was longer (ie more clones), and the map was bigger, perhaps with a different spawning system or proper redlines. But that also sounds a lot like DOM, which is often just like ambush on a big scale.
Even so, vehicles drivers have two other game types they can "chill" in, and over there, you're a lot more likely to even be able to call in an HAV, because of the higher vehicle limit as well as being able to spawn away from the action and not have your RDV get popped.
The hippo can chill with the other hippos.

Ambush maps are too small.
This was the problem all along.
Trying to fix that by limiting vehicles isn't a solution. It makes the game mode less viable for less players. Removing vehicles makes AV less viable because bringing enough players to control 2 vehicles effectively isn't much different from bringing enough to control 3 or 4, but the limit means you're using more of your team to counter less of the enemy team.
Less vehicles makes vehicle users less likely to play Ambush because there's too large a risk of not being able to bring the majority of their SP to bear on the situation. It also makes dedicated AV players less likely to play Ambush because there's too few targets for them when there can only be 2 enemy vehicles at a time.
Fix the map size, and vehicles will be more balanced. |

At the start of every ambush you need to work out an AV plan with your squad. Some maps we all go AV, in others we have mixed roles. The point is that you shouldn't even spawn in without an AV plan.

Sigh....... and double sigh......even after having my HAV nerfed and having the vehicle limit set to 2 per team the op is still feeling but hurt from the presence of vehicles in ambush.
Vehicles are an intrinsic part of new Eden and if you can't handle or just don't like them then this is not the game for you.

i like vehicles in ambush because its all like esplosions and loud noises and chaos and terror and im all like "oh ma gad!" and it evens out my night terrors and viet nam flashbacks makes me feel balanced
But boss, we can already see his bing bong, and his habby flabby babby.

Man thats the best way I ever heard it stated. What really is the purpose of vehichles in ambush. It make no since at all. They tell those who believe so not to play ambush, but if ambush is a game I would like to play then why I can't? Why must I play another game mode I have no interest in at all? The tanks truly destoys the fun that this game could have. Good job the way you made it a ll so simple bt yet so true. CCP please remove tanks and etc from AMBUSH. |

Having an AV plan is great and all, but often, by the time your squad's respawned with AV fits, or you can finally get an opening in the vehicle limit to bring in your own HAV to counter, the match is already almost over.
And AV aside, much of this game type has turned into waiting for the HAV drivers on your team to die so you can call in your own. And of course, usually the enemy team doesn't kill them.
They're not overpowered, AV's not underpowered, it's just too small of a cage for the beast.
Increasing the clone count would fix this problem, but it's nice to have the option to play a quick match where the only objective is to shoot at nerds.

Stop calling in lavs. You only get two vehicles in ambush. Good tankers let the enemy lavs drive around. It leaves us only one tank to deal with at a time. I feel sorry for anyone who wants a decent fight when stupid blueberries clog the queue with lavs. Any game mode is the same. Morons callin lavs when they can fit 3deep in a single one. I crush any blue lav I see.

That's a "duh" statement. I never shoot at red lavs in ambush. But you gotta remember, this is the game type that most of the clueless pubbies are going to flock to. It's also the game type that casual players will want to play. And players who only have a few minutes to spare and don't have time to put a squad together.
We need to save the "you should learn to play the game right" comments for faction warfare and PC. Pub matches need to be stupid-proof.

Cowardly tankers let enemy land roll round ambush . I'd rather spend every game of ambush dominating other tanks and not shooting at scrub infantry .

I can give all the advice in the world and it won't help. Ambush is as dumbed down as you can get. Getting slaughtered by vehicles sucks but it can be prevented. Smart spawn blows. The funny thing is it is useful if you can get enough people to stop spawning. It places you by a clusterfuck. No clusterfuck new spawn.

I think that smartdeploy is to blame for any issues that remain in ambush. The new two vehicle limit is indeed fun and gives tankers a chance to destroy the two enemy tanks instead of destroying one and having five more to worry about as the one you just destroyed is about to get called back in.

They dropped it down to 2 vehicles per team... I think that's pretty drastic. I don't know but I play mainly Ambush when I run pubs and I can tell you this, it is greatly improved.
There used to be six tanks running around and a DS pilot above you head shooting down. If you're complaining now, I'd love to see what you would have said pre 1.8 |

I've been playing since the beginning of closed beta, so of course I remember that. I also remember other things about ambush, like when squad tactics actually mattered and HAV's didn't solely determine the outcome of the match.

Tanks are no longer the super-god-mode they were. 2 guys with well fit swarms can easily take out any tank if they work together.
Ask Peg above what I used to be like - I'm back to my old tricks btw - I love nothing more than deploying into an ambush and waiting on the map screen to see where the tanks are being brought in, so I can go hunt them down as quickly as possible.
And really the only map that is too small to have vehicles in ambush is the tiny manus peak ambush map. I have no idea why they don't just open it up to include the majority of the normal skirmish map.
