Isn't it better to run a normal nanohive on the amarr assault over the ones solely focused on healing hp? I usually run out of ammo when I am doing well. I have always wanted to use the nanohives which restore both armor and ammo but I see on protofits that it takes a lot of resources compared to the other variants. Do you think it would be a good idea to use such nanohive on an amarr assault suit? |

I have yet to level up the nanocircuitry skill to 5 but I will do so when I am able to. Do you think it would be a good idea to use such nanohives[like compact nanohives] on an amarr assault suit over the ones solely meant for ammo?
Edit:I was mistaken, the compact nanohive restores armor and ammo. Though I might start using it more, I still think the highier tiered nanohives of the same type are much better overall as they have more nanites. Correct. I use dual ammo/armor hives on my Amarr assault suits. Unlike the ScR, for example, which is very efficient with ammo, the LR obviously is not considering you waste about 20% of it preheating (or more).
Yes, the laser rifle does us up a lot of ammo. Could you give me an example good standard and advanced fits for the amarr assault. I think the fits mentioned in your guide are outdated since the assault suits layouts were changed. I have not yet leveled up the laser rifle up past operation 2 because I am focusing on my core skills because they are not good enough. I want to know what to look forward to when I have leveled up my skills high enough. I use:
Quote: Complex light damage modifier 'Templar' laser rifle Breach submachine gun/magsec smg/assault scrambler pistol Locus grenade Compact nanohive Enhanced ferroscale plates Enhanced armor repairer Basic armor repairer
The way I see it is if I level up my CPU more I could replace the basic armor repairer with an enhanced armor repairer |

I just wanted to mention a quick correction. You wrote "Assault A/1" instead of "Assault A/1-Series" as the name of the advanced amarr assault fit. |

Oh, I see. I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you. |

I've been using the SMG since beta, so I'm comfortable with it and have it specced out pretty well. Really people should use what they are most comfortable with. More specfically to your question though, my personal style, as you can see with my primary Commando setup, is to offset the weaknesses of my weapon pairings. The magsec is a longer range rail weapon, I don't need that paired up with the LR. If the target is outside 50-60m, they are getting one thing and one thing only: hot laz0r to the face. The big problem for me (and likely not just me) when using the LR is when people get inside optimal range. That's where the SMG wins out, and as an armor-based weapon it also works well finishing off the people who lose their shields bum rushing me.
I do think the smg is much better than the magsec smg in cqc. I used to use the breach submachine gun because I am quite inaccurate with the normal submachine gun. I like the magsec smg because it is faster than the breach submachine gun but it is not as fast as the normal submachine gun. For me, the extra range is just a nice perk of the weapon. |

I used the breach SMG for a while myself. It shares the same problems as most of the other breach weapons, the ROF is a little too slow and so the effective DPS is less than it should be.
I have one last question: Is it worth leveling up the laser rifle proficiency? Would it have any visible effect? I was thinking of leveling the proficiency of the two weapons I want to be using on a permanent basis (Laser rifle, magsec smg) after getting electronics 5 but I doubt the usefulness of the proficiency skill for anti-shield weapons like the laser rifle. |

John Demonsbane wrote:Good observation. A few months ago i would say wait on it until you max your cores and such, and TBH maxing cores has always been the way to go (to level 4 at least). But, with Rattati seemingly making actual progress in restoring shield tanking as a viable option, I'd say it's reasonable to go to level 2-3, which is also where you can unlock Viktors upcoming officer LR, should you ever get one.
Higher than that is definitely not worth it. I actually don't have any weapons to prof 5, I think I have the CR and SMG to 4, and about 5 others, including the LR, to level 3. Omnisoldier FTW. (That's actually one of the old logi schools of thought from beta, we should be a jack of all trades to really support the team in any situation that may arise.)
I know core skills are important but it will take me a some months to max them. I have scrambler rifle and rail rifle up to proficiency 4 but I do not like using those two weapons. No more leaving people with 0 armor and shield with proficiency up(hopefully). I think I am going to level up proficiency for the laser rifle up to 3 and the magsec smg up to 4. I think that wil take 4 weeks not including any future skill point events then I can finally start maxing out my core skills. Anyway, thanks for the advice. |
