I'm just wondering what the consensus is for AV v Vehicle balance in 1.8 compared to 1.6. Basically, would 1.6 have been a lot better with a few minor but important changes?
In 1.6, tanks actually required skill to operate and militia tanks had very short lifespans. It was a bit easy for proto AV to solo a tank however. Also shield tanks and missiles just simply sucked.
In 1.8, tanks require no skill to operate and militia tanks are just as dominant as standard tanks. Only pilot stupidity makes some tanks easier to deal with, but balance shouldn't be around hoping for stupidity. AV vs tanks is in good shape now with the hardener nerf, but tank v tank is thrown off balance. Railguns and blasters both deal too much damage. Railguns at CQC, while blasters at AV.
I think 1.6 might have been better, if a few proper changes were done instead of rebuilding vehicles in 1.7. Current shield boosters, missiles, and shield tank acceleration would've made them competitive in 1.6. A small reduction to AV damage would've been good so that it would take more than just one proto AV clip to destroy a tank.
Mistakes that CCP did in 1.7 included dumbing down the vehicle skill tree and removing most of our passive skills. Now we just have skills that simply unlock stuff for the most part. I'd be fine with removing a lot of our modules if they were to make a swift return back, except that they haven't. Reducing our fitting abilities and slots was bad as it limits our possibilities. There's just a few essential mods that take up our slots which leaves us with little to no freedom with whatever else we may wish.
There are plenty of other things CCP shouldn't have done in 1.7, but this post isn't about that. I realize now that I've said too much for a simple question.

Nah... I mean I appreciate what 1.6 was..... but I am also not really inclined to set back any semblance of balance progress we have slowly worked towards.
MLT tanks still have short life spans, tanks may not require skill in the same part as 1.6 but they vastly more enjoyable to play....I mean not getting WTF blasted off the map at 300m is nice.....

V vs AV is probably in a more balanced state now than 1.6, god I wish I had my old swarm launcher back but vehicle vurnability vs AV effectiveness is nearly there now, maybe when forge guns work again and the SL get a bit more targeting range then I think we will really have it sorted out... until proto vehicles come on the scene |

Yes I do also agree that there's been too much time committed already to just revert back. Balance is already in sight, CCP only needs to make the right changes.

The only thing I would have changed in 1.6 was make an anti swarm flare module which I posted about some months ago and make the shield boosters from 1.7 the ones for 1.6 |

I used an MLT sica with railgun back in 1.7 I could take out 2-3 proper tanks without dying the AV wasn't scary because shield booster and hardener. The only time AV is scary is when there are 2-3 forge guns or if there are 2 swarms and a blaster tank. Now I use gunlogi wait MLT everything on.it and when I'm.in it I don't have a care in the universe |

No Gunlogi has yet beaten my Blaster Maddy since the implementations, even before that I was making a mockery of those Gunlogi's who actually come onto the map.

I think people just try to use milita/standard swarms and think "damn tanks are invincible" when in reality, standard/militia swarms are just incredibly worthless.

That's great for you but this isn't a post about your personal tank I used my example of ranking to point out that an MLT tank can dominate just about any tank if you know how to use it. Maybe you're one of few people who know how to tank and set up a good fit but. This post was about tanks from 1.6 being better and I completely agree I also really miss those active repair modules |

I think this is fine. 1.6 Probably would have been better with minor changes. BUT 1.8 is FINE.
Stacking Hardners gives waves of oppurtunity. Cycling Hardners does not help against anything better than a STD swarm launcher.
Shield Tanks are now hit and run and armour tankers can stick around for a little bit longer. AV is generously rewarded for its efforts. Tank-Busters can easily top the leaderboards.
No more redline rail guns, no more triple hardened gunnlogis of megadeath. And proof that its all good, tankers are whining like its going out of fashion.
Unless your a Computer Scientist don't tell me how Game Mechanics Work.

Alot of people probably do, especially when you consider that most weapons see an approximate 10% damage increase between std and proto, where swarms see over 50%.
You can take a std assault rifle and still do well with it. You can't do that with AV as much, just sayin.
