I'm just wondering what the consensus is for AV v Vehicle balance in 1.8 compared to 1.6. Basically, would 1.6 have been a lot better with a few minor but important changes?
In 1.6, tanks actually required skill to operate and militia tanks had very short lifespans. It was a bit easy for proto AV to solo a tank however. Also shield tanks and missiles just simply sucked.
In 1.8, tanks require no skill to operate and militia tanks are just as dominant as standard tanks. Only pilot stupidity makes some tanks easier to deal with, but balance shouldn't be around hoping for stupidity. AV vs tanks is in good shape now with the hardener nerf, but tank v tank is thrown off balance. Railguns and blasters both deal too much damage. Railguns at CQC, while blasters at AV.
I think 1.6 might have been better, if a few proper changes were done instead of rebuilding vehicles in 1.7. Current shield boosters, missiles, and shield tank acceleration would've made them competitive in 1.6. A small reduction to AV damage would've been good so that it would take more than just one proto AV clip to destroy a tank.
Mistakes that CCP did in 1.7 included dumbing down the vehicle skill tree and removing most of our passive skills. Now we just have skills that simply unlock stuff for the most part. I'd be fine with removing a lot of our modules if they were to make a swift return back, except that they haven't. Reducing our fitting abilities and slots was bad as it limits our possibilities. There's just a few essential mods that take up our slots which leaves us with little to no freedom with whatever else we may wish.
There are plenty of other things CCP shouldn't have done in 1.7, but this post isn't about that. I realize now that I've said too much for a simple question.

MLT tanks still have short life spans, tanks may not require skill in the same part as 1.6 but they vastly more enjoyable to play....I mean not getting WTF blasted off the map at 300m is nice..... I agree that tanks are a lot more fun now. But I just think that against infantry, militia tanks are too powerful. I'm sure that you and I and many other tankers don't have a problem with militia tanks, but infantry does and they don't care what nerfs are taken into effect. The hardener nerf managed to fix a bunch of problems with AV v vehicles, but in its wake it made the large railgun even more OP and the large blaster a bit too powerful.
Yes I do also agree that there's been too much time committed already to just revert back. Balance is already in sight, CCP only needs to make the right changes.
