Tanks - Looking to the future A very LONG posting of mine, summin it up a bit here.
So considering the changes, I've found running 3 shield hardeners rather viable, where as before I felt it was overkill with previous resistance at 60%.
My blaster gunnlogi 3 shield hardeners
Complex rep CPU booster
Proto blaster XT missiles rider turrets
Thing is a beast, or can be. More tank, less gank, my favorite play style.
Anyways, I had ideas on where we could go with the shield hardeners, and how to keep a 60% bonus on resists while not becoming OP.
Stacking penalties - Specifically, a penalty against the factor of time. More mods, means less active time, in addition to CD time. One or the other really, to discourage stacking multiples of the same with no real drawback. This is needed when you use such high resists numbers, as it can obviously be abused.
But something else needs to change, we need something equally as useful, but in a different way. Some would say extenders, but given the way shields work, a flat HP bonus does not cut it.
Beef up extenders - In addition to the HP bonuses they provide, tack on some resistance. Basically, bring back passive resists.
Example: Pro extender- 700 HP / 15% resist
For a shield tank, that has such low HP to begin with, they rely on resistances to mitigate damage. This would make extenders a very attractive alternative to hardeners, and not only that, make them viable.
Address the real issue with hardeners - That being time. 60% at 30 seconds with maxed skills is FAR too long. Drop this number down to 12 seconds (15 seconds with skills). I view this as burst tanking, get a big bump for a short time. At the same time, our current hardeners numbers could be a variant of the hardener.
Address Reps - I'm not for a stacking penalty but a change to the rate of repair. As in, changing how quickly they rep. Increase a maddies armor more than it is, and change the rate from / 1 second, to per 5 seconds. Forcing a maddie piolt to gauge its engagements, using the time in between to rep back up to full.
Currently, you just need a few seconds of cover to regain that HP. But simply nerfing that without buffing them in another aspect (HP amount) would gimp them, which is why I suggest adding more armor.
