We had a higher player count at one point during beta, along with other cool stuff, but it melted the PS3's hard drive so I'm assuming they wait on the PS4.

I Could see 24vs24 By year end.... 4 Squads of 6...
The rather large maps in DUST that leaves sometimes 5 minutes looking for a red thing would really benefit...
Specially with the way the class and role dynamics in DUST are starting to unfold with all the racial suits. |

The FPS elements of DUST are just a minigame.
The MMO part has only the most basic of elements implemented so far in the form of Planetary Conquest. There's a persistent galaxy for players to interact with and shape, but so far, we have only a small corner, and very little impact on even that.
When we have a player-driven market, manufacturing, PvE as well as PvP, and meaningful interactions with pilots from EVE Online, then this will be the MMO it's already being advertised as. For now, it's a tech demo for a minigame that will be attached to that MMO.
As for what DUST really is meant to be, that's much the same as EVE Online. It's a massively multiplayer online (MMO) political and economic simulator and RPG. The difference is that instead of managing or being part of a space fleet, you're managing or being part of sci-fi planetary armed forces. |

DUST isn't some cutting edge piece of software... Alot of what we see is university level programming.. Not professional expert innovators..
PS3 is still widely considered by TECH experts as an amazing piece of hardware...
IF DUST's developers can't figure out how to optimize the Engine and game for a ps3... The problems on the PS4 will only be amplified..

shadow drake35 wrote:i want to see more people in battles this is the same as most fps battles i want at least 32 vs 32 MMO isn't defined by having more people in individual battles, its defined by having multiple battles joined together in a single persistent game universe. Instant battles clearly aren't it, but faction war and planetary conquest are.
Personally I'd like to see smaller battles (6v6 or 12v12) but linked together. Twenty districts on a single planet being fought over at once, by two different factions. Some on wide-open maps where tanks rule; some on city maps where infantry rule; some where you need infantry with dropship support. When each individual battle finishes the players move back to the war barge and queue for another battle for the same faction on the same planet. Gradually one faction wins control of the planet, and gets the appropriate rewards (ISK, SP, etc.)
With this model, while you'd have smaller individual battles, overall you'd have maybe 200 players per side fighting for the planet, and there's actually no real limit to how large that can scale just by adding districts.
Then, link the planetary battles together into constellation-wide wars, on the same principle.
Now you are talking MMO.

Terrible architecture and archaic hardware. It was an amazing piece of hardware... in 2014 its an amazing piece of junk.
Sure the programming may not be stellar either, but the hardware is definitely holding this game back as well. |

Dont hold your breath. Larger player battles are probably not a reality for another 3-4 years. |

Raising the number from 16v16 to 32v32 to 64v64 will do nothing if there's no "real" MMO elements. Look at MAG. It had the highest amount of players in a battle but it didn't go past that. The story was mute despite the title of "Shadow War" and the only incentive was meta e-peen increases. No real MMO elements.

and to be honest it puzzles me as to why folk constantly believe its purely down to hardware. its also down to server stability. something which DUST cant really seem to get 16 vs 16 without lag. the way tranquilty runs things need to be refined before we see larger numbers without it being a rubberbanded lagfest. in all honesty i cant see DUST making it to PS4 have to ask if its worth ccp's time and money to upgrade a game with such low user numbers to a new system and i cant really see many more people hanging on too much longer to their ps3's after xmas 2014 after xmas price cuts and bundles. a big change needs to happen to increase revenue from DUST. just from personal experience peopel have severely dropped the amount of moeny they spend on this game goign from maybe spending $20 per month on merc packs to buying the bare minimum for boosters and thats it
