Can anyone give some suggestions for what to put in the Commando's equipment slot? I've been using nanohives even though I don't really need them, just so I can have something to put there.
Any good suggestions? I use an Amarr commando with a laser and assault scrambler.

Well, it depends. Some carry Nanites, some carry a Repair Tool, some carry Nanohives. I carry R/Es because, well, Gallente Sentinels are a hassle.

Amarr Commando with laser and assault scrambler since Uprising 1.2 checking in. Best use of equipment is by far the nanite injector. Run with a squad, if someone goes down you can clear all enemies off up close with the assault scrambler and all enemies off at range with the laser, then offer a safe zone to pick up downed teammates. And even if you need to pick someone up in a really hot spot, you have enough HP to act as a human shield while they run to cover after being revived.
I've cycled through all the equipment with this set up and have stuck with the nanite injector for a long time now as pretty much my exclusive equipment piece.

If you are an armour tanker or run with armour tankers, have a couple of them carry Wyrkomi Nanite Injectors.
Commando suits are durable and flexible but very expensive.
Your whole squad benefits from a good nanite injector at the end of a tough fight.

I like Allotek Hives.
Gives my team ammo and health accordingly.
It's not the best at either but it's something.
It's much more of Support suit in my use.
Kinda like the Battlefield Engineer.
